it seems that my display bezel (probably the inner metal frame where the lcd display is screwed onto) got a bit loose over time (maybe this inner frame is a bit bended) which led to already 3 broken lcds.

it mostly happened while the notebook was inside my notebook bag during travel, once also while i only put some books onto the closed lid of the notebook (without any pressure, neither "thrown" of course).

last time it happened i ordered a display from an online store providing notebook displays and replaced the display by myself, which worked very well. however when i opened the bezel i saw that the inner metal frame that holds the lcd display was a bit bended and i also noticed that the whole plastic frame on the bezel got very loose over time, which also may be the reason for the cracked lcd displays.

now i called hp and asked them about a whole bezel replacement and they 1. gave me the part number (452215-001) to look for in the internet and 2. mentioned that, since the problem now occured for the 3rd time (4th time actually, but 3rd time reported to hp), they could think of a complete lid replacement under warranty (still have it till summer 2011). i just have to take a picture and mail it to them.

now i wanted to ask whether someone else already had experience with such problems (is this inner bended frame the reason, or the loose bezel frame? or something else?) and whether i should try to let hp handle it (with the risk that they decide not to repair it under warranty) or get a bezel (and a new lcd display - wsxga+ 16:10 1680x1050 matte) from an online store and replace it by myself. i suppose replacing the whole bezel is a bit more complicated than just the display - unfortunately the parts replacement videos by hp arent online anymore. shall i give it a try? it would be quite costly since it would be the 3rd time to pay for a repair/new display, since the first one was repaired under warranty, second i had to pay for the repair by hp since a cracked display isnt covered by the warranty, third i bought a display in an online store and replaced it by myself.. or try the possible warranty repair by hp?

    here the specs:
    hp compaq 8510p gb967ea#akn
    1680x1050 wsxga+ matte display
    warranty until summer 2011

    thanks

well, now i ordered another display since they granted me a rebate.

but i still think im gonna show hp the pictures of the frame being bended and the too much space between the plastic bezel frame and the screen on the front side and i hope they will offer me a warranty covered lid/bezel replacement.

if not, has anyone any advice how to prevent the displays getting cracked? and would it be a good idea to buy a bezel and try to replace it by myself? has anyone eventually downloaded the parts replacement videos by hp for the 8510p/w models while they still were online ( http://vsslfpro.zcce.compaq.com/plmcontent/NACSC/SML/default.htm)?

    thanks
