I am trying to get my 8510p to display on my HDTV through the built in HDMI port. I connect my HDMI cable up, Press Fn-F4 nothing, press several times and all I get is a graphic on the 8510p's screen showing output to external monitor.
Checked installed HP help and it states what I am doing is correct.
I disconnect and re-connect to my DVD up scaler, and that works.
Any trick to getting this to work?

try desktop -> personalize -> display settings -> extend to this monitor (or something like that)

When I first connected my 8510p to my HDTV via HDMI, either nothing would happen or it was all weird. To resolve this I had to install the catalyst control panel and haven't had any issues since then. Actually when I plug it in the laptop automatically detects the TV and clones the displays. Or extends...I forget.
Either way! All I can guess is that if you tried to extend the display onto the TV and nothing happened (and DON'T have CCC installed), then the HDMI cable might be bad. -
It should automatically detect it.
What GPU and drivers are you using? -

Check your drivers. At first my drivers didn't work.

PS: running Vista bus. edition 32-bit -
Try www.laptopvideo2go.com drivers if you have an nvidia gpu. Im using these and it works great
So what GPU do you have? -

Any luck yet?
Try having the notebook off, then connect it to the TV and boot it up. Thats what I had to do the first time to get it to work, and now it works every single time. Don't ask me why though.
Hope that helps.
