Hey all, any suggestions about which of these two configurations is better (with all else EXACTLY the same)? About me: I plan on doing a decent amount of video editing, engineering modeling/CAD, and audio editing (no gaming).

    1) 8510w - T7300 (2.0GHz), Nvidia Quadro FX 570M, no Centrino Pro $2000
    3) 8510p - T7500 (2.0 GHz), ATI Radeon X2600, $2600

Basically its boiling down to 1) a better video card (570m) but slower processor (t7300) for a pretty reasonable price or 2) a decent video card (x2600) and a better processor (t7500) for 600 bucks more. What's better for my needs?

what? 2600$ doesn't sound right... :\ I'm on the HP site and I don't see any 8510p variant for that much.

Either way the Quadro 570m will be far better suited to your needs. In fact, it beats the Radeon HD 2600 hands down, thus my confusion as to your prices...

Yeah I felt that that was a bit too much for an 8510p. I stepped up the warranty on both machines, which should explain the high price.

so for video/audio editing is it significantly better to sacrifice CPU slightly in order to get the quadro 570m? is the ATI card THAT much less powerful? all the other 8510w config options with 2.2 and 2.4 GHz SR processors are too expensive (2.8k+) :(

also what does HP mean when it says "centrino pro not included." i thought i was getting a santa rosa chip... ??

A centrino pro indicates the presence of extra business centric features. Look up intels website for detailed info on what this contains but basically for a system to have centrino pro label it should have along with the regular centrino components a gigabit ethernet, TPM etc.

Santa Rosa is available with both Centrino Duo or Centrino Pro branding. As long as you are getting what you want with the system I wouldnt worry too much with the sticker.

I don't think there's any solid data about the X2600; however, the 570M will probably be more powerful. How much more powerful is another question.
