    Hello

My 8510w is unstable with 4GB ram running Win XP.

Instability occurs when I'm playing Team Fortress 2 and only then. Everything else is as it should.
Will upgrading to Vista 64 help or is this a hardware issue?

    Thanks,
    Simon

Only TF2? Nothing else? Well, did you download the most recent patch to TF2? And it might not be the RAM, it might be drivers. Try upgrading you video drivers too.

Hi Crimsonman and thanks for the reply..

I've tried at both drivers provided by HP and same problem. I've tried 4 different ForceWare drivers whilst haing my GPU being recognized as a GeForce 8600m GT (fx570m=8600m GT) and this issue always happens when doing intensive 3 gaming in Team Fortress 2.
Then I uninstalled by AV and FW, I also disabled all Power Saving features. I updated the mobo BIOS and all other drivers. Same problem. Only by removing one DIMM stick my computer is stable.

Those with the Lenovo T61p have had to send their machines to a repair depot to have the mobo replaced. I'm so hoping mine can be fixed with an update but I doubt it since Lenovo doesn't seem to be able to do it.

I just got word from HP tech support, they say that if the dimms aren't exactly alike and from the same manufactorer the PC might become unstable!?!?

Guess I have to buy a new dimm :(

I run 4GB in mine, no probs.

Did you run memtest86? If not, do so. If it passes, you don't have a hardware problem. If it fails, you do.

    Test your RAM with MemTest86+.

I've seen marginal SODIMMs fail in pairs but work individually before. What brand did you buy? I strongly recommend buying Crucial.
