Does anyone know if HP plans on putting the Dreamcolor display option into the 15.4" 8730w (or a successor)?

Its not likely. To have the Dream-color display, you need a powerful graphics card. A nVidia Quadro FX770 or Ati HD3650 just isn't enough. I believe that the 8730w preconfigured models that come with the Dream-color display have an nVidia Quadro FX2700 at the very least.

However, it would be great if HP somehow managed to implement a display that is similar in quality to the Dream-color display. The money would be definitely worth it.

A DreamColor display simply means better color reproduction and image quality.
It has absolutely nothing to do with the power of the graphics card.

Actually "DreamColor" is just a branding thing. HP simply decided there should be a brand covering their higher-end offerings for the graphic-oriented clients.

Which is great, but there is nothing truly special from a technological POV, is just HP's way of saying "large gamut" in a fancy way which would make people believe there's something technologically more advanced than other offers on the market.
I do think HP might have more expertise than other manufacturers when it comes to color workflows, to putting together all the pieces, at least because they are involved in the printing industry too, but:
-- the desktop DreamColor is just a 30bit IPS monitor at a killer price-point. While 30bit displays *are* state of the art, there are other manufacturers offering this too (EIZO, Quato, Barco, probably NEC), so it's not something you won't find anywhere else. The price is great for the HP, but I expect manufacturers with more tradition in high-end displays to offer better stuff (and more expensive). When it comes to 24-bit displays, I'd take an EIZO at any moment over any HP or Dell display. Haven't seen yet neither the DreamColor nor something similar from others :) so I can't be sure this is true for 30bit displays too.
-- the DreamColor in the 8730w is probably the new LG/Philips capable of displaying 24 bits instead of 18 bits like most laptops displays, and with RGB LED backlight. That is, probably the same panel which is delivered in the Dell M6400. If a similar panel would be available in 15.4" size, they'd probably offer "DreamColor" on 15.4" too. As far as I know, the Dell M4400 has an option for RGBLED display, but I don't know the bit-depth of the panel itself.

Dream-color is just another fancy name for LED, it's nowhere near an IPS screen. Same for Dell with their "100% RGB color gamut."
