I thought this deserved its own thread...someone posted in a different thread that the 8600 GS GPU in the dv9500t is underclocked by HP. Can anyone confirm?

I'm not crazy about the fact that HP only offers the GS but have been trying to rationalize choosing an HP over Dell by the fact that Dell's GT is apparently hurt by using DDR2 instead of DDR3, but if HP's GS is hobbled too, that sort of takes away from the anti-Dell argument... :(

It would be interesting to see some benchmarks (3dMark) from a current owner.

Why aren't there any user reviews of the dv9500t on this site? (Are there non-officials reviews somewhere here in the forums?)

Does anyone own the laptop? Are the owners so enthralled with the laptop that they don't have any time to post here?

I'm waiting for this laptop from Costco [1] to go on sale. Supposedly an August 20th coupon drops the price to $1299.99 USD. The coupon also indicates a 256MB Nvidia discrete graphics card (which I assume to be the 8400 or the 8600 GS), unlike the integrated 3100 shown here.

I have a pimped out Inspiron 1520 on order from Dell, but I doubt it will ever get shipped before the Rapture.

No question that the GS is seriously less powerful than the GT- but on top of that, someone suggested in a different thread that HP's GS was actually underclocked *compared to other GS cards.*

So HP has an underclocked 8600 GS, while Dell offers an 8600 GT with DDR2 memory only.

I'm beginning to see how boutique notebook makers find their niche...

Each manufacturer has a lot of freedom when it comes to specs on cards. The same is true with desktop video cards. That's why it's important to look at the specs, and not just the marketing names, when ordering.
