Imagine my disappointment when the shipment from Dell which should have been my new 600m instead turned out to be a 4600 desktop! Once I got Dell to understand what happened I got the 4600 returned and my account credited for the notebook I didn't receive. However, this may be a blessing in disguise as after I had ordered the 600m I got a chance to use a Compaq x1000 and really liked it, especially the widescreen. I realize this is a Compaq forum and opinions are probably skewed towards favoring the x1000 but between the Compaq and the 8600 do you believe one is superior to the other? I use the notebook for managing our small business and web, e-mail, etc. -- no gaming. I want something light enough as to not be a burden when I take it with me but I don't need anything too light. Anyway, is one better or should I be considering something else? Thanks for the input.

As gaming is not an issue, that takes away the only advantage the 8600 had over the X1000, which was a better GPU. I think the looks/build quality of the X1000 are a good enough a reason alone to pick this over the 8600... So I say go the X1000 !

I was also deciding between the 8600 and nx7010 (same as x1000) and I ended up with the nx7010. It's an excellent laptop. I'm also not a gamer at all.

    HP nx7010 DU259A: Pentium-M 1.6GHz, 2x256MB RAM, 60GB 7200RPM HDD, 64MB Radeon 9200, 15.4" WXGA, XP Pro.
