Hello there, this is my first post here so go easy on me! heheheh

But I was looking for a new laptop and I *really* wanted one that could have the gpu upgraded in the future... This site http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/ tells me that the 8710 has MXM-III, so...

What are my chances of upgrading the gpu that comes in the Compaq 8710 in the future? I suppose that if I could stick a geforce 7950 or 8800(when released) inside it would get way too hot anyway (or not?), but I was thinking on the next generation of mobile gpus... do they need to be specifically designed for each notebook model even if they use MXM slots?

Slim to none as the card would have to be sold separately and I don't think HP will do that. Also, I believe it has a proprietary MXM thing...
Clevos are the best upgradeable laptops in terms of video cards.

HP have offered more powerful options before but whether they will do it again and when Nvidia will release a more powerful NVS card...well... no one knows...

    I wouldn't rely on that...

Thanks thats what I wanted to know.

And I am aware that the the new 17" sagers and the ASUS C90 may be upgraded... but there are things other than being upgradeable that counts for me, one of them being a broad international warranty. (At the momment Im living at Amazon in Brazil... but intend to move soon)
