I recently purchased a 8710w with XP, but from time to time the system stops while loading the OS and turns to a black screen, after forcefully restarting it with holding down the power button it shows the screen where you can choose to either start XP normally or in safe mode, anyone had this issue and fixed it?

There's another issue that frustrates me a lot - I tried installing XP 64 bit as I'm working in the 3D industry and would benefit from that in rendering, but unfortunately there are no drivers for the quick launch buttons and the flash reader... the lack of card reader and not having external buttons for the sound and wireless is a real pain for me, so I had to revert to 32bit :(

I also have the black corners which someone mentioned in the review thread :(

to be honest I expected more from a top-business model from hp.

I have the 8510w which is similar...

Sounds like you need a newer vid driver. Try a site called laptopvideo2go.com
Be sure to read the instructions.

I doubt you'll find much that'll do XP64 complete. It will likely do Vista64 which ought to do what you need. I run it w/ SW w/ CW and it works fine.

    thanks trickhp
I'll try the drivers, didn't want to change the quadro drivers but if it fixes the problem will have to do that.
what is w/ SW w/ CW?

    Simple-screen,

This is indeed the same issue I've had and was able to work around it by downloading older drivers.

please note, I saw this primarily on Vista but your description of the issue is identical.

I'm using driver 101.63 from hp.com for the 8510w system, and I believe they list the same version for the 8710w.

    Hope this helps.
