    IF HDCP ERROR

"Playback device not HDCP compliant". After you connect the laptop to the TV (via HDMI cable) you have to launch the graphic card's own control panel software and use its configuration options to select "single output device", then select the TV option there as well. THEN there will be no HDCP error. I read that only one display device can run when you are playing a high definition movie via laptop to HD TV, otherwise you get the HDCP error.

    IF NO SOUND

"All you have to do is connect the cable and get picture coming through the TV, and then right click on your sound settings in the bottom right, next to your clock. Click on "Playback Devices" you should have an option for "SPDIF Interface". Single left-click on it and underneath next to properties click on "Set Default".
Now close your Youtube, or browser, or music program or anything active that sends out sound and restart your youtube or whatever and you'll get sound through your TV."

Re: Audio though HDMI port on 8710w
Problem solved. Here's what worked for me:

    1. right click the speaker icon in the lower right, choose playback devices
    2. change the default to SPDIF Digital Output Device from Speaker
    3. under properties, supported formats tab, change to microsoft wma pro audio and untick the other 2 options
    4. set sampling rate set to 48.0khz
