I have just upgraded my 8710w wsxga (1680x1050) screen to wuxga (1920x1200). It took me about 35 minutes to swap screens. I have purchased the screen from online store. Will put some pics later. New screen is gorgeous. Will kindly answer all your questions, guys!

Congratulations! Glad it's working out for you!

But isn't the 8710w available with a WUXGA screen from the factory also? (Unlike the dv9000 series)

Be warned: Once you get used to WUXGA, you'll never want to go back ;). I have WUXGA on my 15.4" nw8440, and despite the text being rather small, I love having so much room to work with on my screen. Even 1680x1050 isn't enough for me anymore. I'm totally spoiled now :p

Thanks! Yes, it does have an option when you ordering a new machine. But if you are buying the discounted machine from another place for cheap it is hard to choose another screen :) I love bigger resolution! Especially on such a screen with anti-glare!

Yes, it is LG and the original WSXGA screen in my 8710w was LG as well. They looked very similar. The only thing was different, the new screen came with the inverter and the panel for it fastened to the main frame so I had to unfold the fasteners to take the inverter off the new screen and connected 8710w inverter instead. All the rest was like a charm and the screen fit into screen shell easily. The main thing i love about it that it's ANTI-GLARE. And the problem is - the supplier does not have "ready to put" LG WUXGA anti-glare screens in stock. So, the only option left is to modify the frame a little, but it's really easy.

amazing. i'd like to upgrade to 1680x1050 on my 15.4 but i'd rather wait for the warranty to expire.

Check this number LP171WU1 (TL)(A3) they have it on the second page within LG-Philips screens.

No, it's not exactly for the 8710w as you will need to remove the bottom inverter holder from it's frame as HP's inverter is fitted to the cover itself. But I took this because it has anti-glare coat on it. My HP's factory installed screen was WSXGA and of the same LG-Philips manufacturer with same coating.

    Thats so neat!
Do you know if its possible to upgrade a DV2700? If so how did you go about finding the possible models/options for replacement screens?

Well whatever a 14" laptop can support, and I believe 1440x1024 would be the wxga+ resolution for that size. I have a feeling the price will be prohibitive and not to mention hard to find a matching LCD.

Edit: the stock 14" would be the 1280x800 which makes the 1920x1200 definitely drool worthy.

Well, I am afraid there are no bigger resolution screens available with 14.1"-size...WXGA+ is the highest. And it is 1440x900.
