Hi, does your 8730w has an AMT-Option in the BIOS (F.08) like the manual says?
Can you install the iAMT-Drivers? Maybe you habe to try it manually by extracting the files from SP40118 and run the Setups in \MEI and \LMSSOL.
I get a message that my nb does not meet the requierements ?!?
My NB (FU472) has Vista Ultimate 64 but I also tried Vista Business 32.

Also I noticed, that if I try to copy large files (> 9 GB) from an external USB-HDD the copy-process "hangs up". It doesn't matter if i copy with the explorer or by using xcopy in a dosbox. Can somebody check this on his 8730w? Thanks

    Thank you for your answers.
Which models do you have? Maybe AMT is not enabled on all models ?
    I have the FU472 (x9100, FX3700, 320GB, BD, Dreamcolor)

HP has just release a new BIOS v F.0A for the 8730W. It seems that they have made some IAMT changes:

    - Updates the Intel Manageability Engine (ME) firmware to version 1028 to
support the Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) 4.1 upgrade. Users who want
to update to ME 1028 locally should see HP SoftPaq Number sp42026 on the HP
website, listed under the Firmware category.
    - Adds an enable/disable option for the microphone device in the Setup Utility
    (F10).

Download it from here and try it out.
I have just upgraded to it, but my IAMT worked before also.

How useful/popular is this iAMT technology anyway? I haven't come across many companies that have implemented this so far.

I bought my customized laptop with AMT enabled, because I figured I'd find some use for it, and now I have. The biggest feature, for me, is Serial-over-LAN, a virtual serial port that's accessible over the network no matter what what state the OS is in. Got kernel panic? No problem, I can get a full stacktrace. You can also do things like network port-blocking in hardware.
