Definitely want a core2duo, and I would not be considering the 9000 except that I really like the num pad. I like the feel of both. The weight isn't too much of a concern, but I'm still unsure about the size of the 17"...

    help me decide!

If you don't move your laptop around much at all, I'd get the 17". If you're a college student or someone who travels frequently, get the 15.4" 6000.

I've had both sizes of notebooks, and I really miss that 17" screen. Alas, I had to move to a 15.4" in the name of portability but oh well.

I did have the 15.4 model for a while and loved it, then my work furnished me with this new dv9000 and I will never go back to a 15.4 screen again. The
17" screen is amazing and the weight is not that much of a difference. Be sure to get the extended battery though.

I find that I use my current laptop mostly on the couch at home - I might bring it out with me if I have to kill time waiting for kids' practices or to take it to work on occasion, but I don't take it out as much as I thought I would. I was impressed with the large screen and the number pad on the dv9000. It's tempting...

For me the limiting factor would be graphical horsepower. If you don't need the 7600 that the 9000t offers, go for the 6000 series. A 17 inch is really not very portable and correctly labeled a "desktop replacement". I have had both a 15.4 inch laptop and a 14.1. The 14.1 is much easier to carry around.

There are external usb-based # pads if you need a number pad.

The larger screen real-estate is always nice though.

ive got the dv9000 and it isnt really that heavy especially not compared to most other 17" notebooks and not as bulky either. Ive had 15" laptops before and this is somewhat heavier but still not so heavy as to kill its portability. the screen is nice and yeah the numpad is a good thing to have i reckon. u also cant get a better gfx card on an hp than the one on the dv9000. the dv6000 wuda been perfect if it just had a better gfx card.
