    Hey guys,
I have a Compaq V5209US laptop with a Celeron processor that I got for super cheap a while back...Anyways I am looking at upgrading to Vista since I dont game on this thing but I want to upgrade my processor/memory so that I can run it much smoother. The memory upgrade is simple but the processor I can't quite figure out...

Here are some pictures of the socket:

From what I have found something like this should work:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819111303

but I am not completely sure and I want to make sure before I go and spend big bucks on a processor. It seems like the T5*** series Core 2 Duo fit...but anything else has the missing pin diagonal from the corner pin. There just isn't much info available about the mPGA478MT...I searched and couldn't find anything really...

Also, I want to make sure but I am fairly confident that the 945GM chipset supports Core 2 Duo's... If not I can probably use a Core Duo right? Will I need to get an update BIOS? If so where can I find one?

    Thanks in advance
    Matt

Using CPU Z will tell you what kind of socket you have exactly, rather than visually trying to figure it out.

    It says Socket 479 mPGA.

But I thought some socket 479's had the missing pin next to the corner and some had it diagonal...

I think I understand now...I have a Socket 479 mPGA which is the mobile Socket 479. I can only fit Mobile processors as it is the desktop processors which have the different pin configuration. As long as my BIOS supports it I should be able to run the Core 2 Duo T5600...

    Is that all right?

Yeah..you can't fit a desktop CPU into a laptop MOBO, unless you have a Compal or one of those manufacturers that make it possible.

What processor are you deciding to upgrade to? Might as well upgrade to a new laptop!
