    Hi Everyone,

I recently purchase a dv9548ca from the local Best Buy store here in Ontario. The "Y" key on the keyboard was fasteneded down slightly crooked, and it keeps falling off right from the time I took the machine out of the box. I've never had experience with fixing laptops, but it looks like the white plastic underneath the key may be damaged and on of the little metal tabs on the keyboard itself is bent preventing the key from snapping down straight.

There is also an intermittant problem when I use the shift key with various keys on the board (mostly the numbers on the top row). When I need one of the symbols they appear as something else. For example, I hold shift and hit "2" to get the @ sign, but it appears as a "\". Is this a hardware or software problem?

Is there anything I can do to fix these problems? Or should I attempt to exchange with Best Buy? It has only been 12 days from the date of purchase.

Thanks in advance for any help! It is much appreciated!

For the first one, I'd recommend you contact HP.

For the second, yep, that's just a software issue. Go into control panel > regional and language options > keyboards and languages > change keyboards, you should be able to change it to your normal one.

Take it back. Don't "deal with it". Don't hope that it's just a software problem. Don't stand for poor quality on a new product.

Take it back and get a new one. Period.
