hi I have a 6500t and the fan loves to turn on if I have it running on hp recommended settings. the only way I can stand it is if I keep it on power saver mode which slows my pc down. Im thinking about returning it and maybe getting the 9700t. does the the 17" model have as much fan noise as the 6500t?
Thanks

Good question.
I'm considering buying either a 9700 or 6700 myself. Every 6500 review says the fan is really noisy, and that would really bother me. Too bad because I love the white SE version of that notebook, so pretty.
If the 9700 will be quieter then that would be best. -
Any 9000 series owners, please give us feedback?

I have been using a 9500 series laptop for about 6 months now. The fan rarely turns on while using regular programs in Windows. This holds true till the core temperature reaches about 45 deg. C.
The fan kicks in when any 3D app is fired. This also has to do with the larger cooling fins present in the 9500 series. The 6500 series has a smaller footprint which reflects in its weight too. This is one more reason for the fan to kick in that much more.
To reduce the fan from spinning regularly, try using RMClock. This utility helps in specifying the states (read speed) that the processor should run at. For basic work, the lowest of states would suffice. If you need punch, you can always specify the highest speed that the processor supports.
