While I know that the inquirer is sensationalist, it's somewhat unsettling that Nvidia or other OEMs haven't come out with an official statement to put this all to rest. I just ordered a dv5t with the 9600GT a few days ago using the $400 off coupon but only got a 1 year warranty. With a lot of comments on this machine and the GPU being very hot, I'm just worried that my laptop will eventually fail if I use it for gaming and school. But I did get a good deal on it so from a most bang for the buck perspective, it's good. I just hope it lasts 3 years and more. Can anyone chime in on the 9600 GT?

You need it for school, so don't worry about it.
It's not like you should switch to discrete graphics, or go ATI...
Besides I think chaz's is running just finehttp://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=285618
If it means anything to you, I'm 80% sure I will buy this laptop in the next couple weeks, and the gpu doesn't really concern me at this point. -
do you think that there will be a better deal on this machine in the next few weeks, that will beat out the current $400 off coupon?!!!

Thanks for all the reply. From all the research and great resources on this site, it is really one of the best deals that I've seen in months. I've been eying this dv5t for quite some time and also the Asus M50Vm since they have all the features that I wanted in a laptop, but the $400 off coupon sealed the deal. At least now I know I can extend the warranty when I need to if anything negative starts coming up.
Can anyone recommend a good sleeve and cooler for this laptop? I'm thinking about getting a Targus Groove backpack and maybe the Zalman NC1000, but I'm not too sure on a good sleeve. -

How do you actually apply that coupon? I don't see anything on the screen showing you the totals about applying a coupon.

Okay, thanks! Someone claimed the dv7t offers an LED backlit screen, but I'm not seeing that. If it did it pretty much meets my needs

Thanks all! And for the coupon, make sure you're not in APP. If so, just log out when configuring.

What's APP?

Even if the inquirer is right...they accuse the G92/94 cores to be defunct. The 9600 gt card is G94 based...but the 9600 M gt is a G96 card.
Correct me if I am wrong but I think it is ok. It runs warm...but so do most gaming rigs...HP's run a little hot anyways

The 9600m gt still runs hot tho...so the heat still necessitates attention. I don't think they are as prone to damage as the 8600
