I have a DV7T on order. How large of a monitor can it push without slowing down?
I'd like to use a 22-24" if possible.

What do you mean, "without slowing it down"?
While gaming, the higher the resolution, the lower the details would have to be set to get the same performance. Anything past 1680x1050 would likely not give you max settings on modern games. If you're not gaming, the card will handle things beautifully (ie: DVDs). -
Awesome. Thanks midnightsun
What ports do I need on a monitor so I can just hook it up to my notebook?
DVI or VGA? I don't have my dv7t yet, so I don't know what ports i have yet. -
The DV7T has a VGA and HDMI port on it for video out, so make sure the monitor accepts VGA input.

Thank you.

i use a 24" 1080p lcd with my 9600mGT... works great

I think you can connect it to a 30" 2560x1600 monitor just by using the HDMI port. The new dv5,dv7 series use HDMI 1.3 which support 30" monitors.
I'm planning on buying one in a few months. Has anyone tried yet? -
I used in a 42" lcd tv without problem. Only that you need to use it as primary monitor.

The 9600M GT is capable of 2560x1600 resolution; however because of the VGA output I don't think HDCP is supported so some blu-rays won't be as spectacular.
However HDMI should output HDCP fine upto a monitor resolution of 2560x1600;
If I'm not mistaken I believe all series 8xxx and 9xxx and even some later 7xxx NVIDIA GPU's are able to output at 2560x1600 display monitors.
1920x1200 output is probably your best bet, the 9600m GT can play almost all games reasonably well at FULL HD 1080p or above.
Crysis is playable though at certain times in the game it slows to a crawl (Settings on High, though GPU is overclocked), however it runs smooth enough on low.
Same with virtually any game from 08 onwards. -
2560x1600 Through HDMI. You wont be able to game at that resolution unless its an old game that supports it like world of warcraft.
9600M GT How large of external monitor can it use?
