    Question on the display port on the envy 15, it looks like a full size port but what are the specifications on it?

    Is it 1.2 or some earlier version of the display port standard?

    I just ordered a korean 27" IPS 2560x1440 imported monitor for ~395 US (SAME lg panel as the apple cinema display and the one in the hp 2740, but with a glossy coating like the apples and not the hideous speckle filled AG coating on the matte hp)

    info on the panel here, it's all the rage as its the best monitor you can get in the world for the price

    (Reviewed) $400 2560x1440 IPS no-AG Achieva Shimian QH270... does anyone read Korean?

    I ask because I know some of the mini display ports can only support a resolution of up to 1920x1200, below this monitors capability.

    That monitor only has an input for dual link dvi, so I'd need to get an adapter, but first I'd like to know whether it can even support the resolution and all I can find about the port is that it's.... wait for it... display port... so helpful in the description hp!

    And... I just found the right cable

    the top comment for this cable was informative.

    Amazon.com: Customer Reviews: HDE Display Port to DVI Cable

    this cheap cable is not an active cable that can do the conversions on board, but it's not needed. The relevant info copy pasted:

    "Just because your computer has a DisplayPort and your monitor has DVI, doesn't mean it will work with your computer. I learned you need a "Multi-mode" DisplayPort on your computer (the logo will have two plus-signs in addition to the D) for this cable to work."

    just checked the displayport logo on my envy 15, and guess what it shows?

    looks like the output on the envy 15 and 17 DO support native switching to other formats like dvi, no active adapter needed.

    @OP,

    Did the cheap HDE cable work out with 2560x1440? Wikipedia says the conversion from DP++ to DVI is only single link, so I was wondering.

    Not sure if this is considered passive, but i purchased this display port to vga adaptor while i had the Envy15 and it worked great and was cheap:
