I picked mine up off the floor the other night to put it away and it was VERY HOT! I know these things can get pretty warm but this was actually hot enough that it was uncomfortable to hold. I'm not saying you'd get blisters from it, but it makes me nervous about leaving it on the carpet. I was working on the laptop with the adaptor plugged in and it was charging the battery for a while? Can others check theirs while the unit is charging the battery and post findings here? Thank you.

What model laptop are you using? That way we can be specific with our testing...
Sometimes leaving it on a carpet floor doesn't allow sufficient cooling of the adapter chassis. Try putting it up on a desk or table and see if it heats up badly again.
My e1405 Adapters at 65w (2) rarely get very warm at all.
My zv6130US Adapter at 90w had a tendency to heat up pretty good. -
My AC adapter does seem to get quite warm, particularly if i leave the notebook on charge for a while. But, when the battery is 100%, and the notebook runs of the AC, then it doesn't get nearly as warm.

Model: dv6000t
When it finishes charging the battery, the temp is normal: just a little warm. When it's doing both (charging and running the laptop at the same time) watch out! It's hot...like take-out foam coffee cup hot. -
my 8430's adapter gets way hotter than my toshiba's ever did as well, especially when the battery's charging, like others have said.
doubt it's a design problem though.. these things can normally take temperatures upwards of 150 degrees pretty easily. -
mines pretty warm aswell but not hot enough to burn you.
A/C adaptor hot?
