Hey Guys!!!
I've searched for a while on google and I got tierd of not finding the information I was searching. I'm really messed up with what means what...
Does having a "Core 2 Duo Processor" mean I have 2 cores? or does it mean something else....
Im really sorry if I have to ask these dumb questions... but when I went to my local bestbuy store I saw a panel with " 2 Core Duo's..." and I remembered mine was a "Core 2 Duo".... so i was like..."eeeeee I thought I had 2 cores, lollll"
heck... i'l even ask the following question.... Core = Cpu?? LoLLL. sorry...![]()

Ok, here
1-Core Duo- A processor with 2 cores
2-Core 2 Duo- A processor with two core, but higher clocked and faster
"two Core DUo's" would techniclly mean two core duo processors, but no computer has that, so...
A core 2 duo isnt two Core Duo's, its has the same # or cores, just two better cores.
I know the wording can be confusing, but i tried to make it as simple as possible, LOL -
ohhh, sniff....
I believe the guy from staples who sold me this laptop with the "t5450 Core 2 Duo" was telling me that I had 2 cores (CPU'S like) running at 1.6ghz each... lolllll then.....
Well, super thx Nvidia for helping me out better understand the complexity of these words -
BTW, just so you know two 1.6GHz cores doesnt make it a 3.2GHz. -
You also forgot the main difference between the core duo and the core 2 duo. The core duo is only 32bit while the core 2 duo is 64bit.
exequiel, a core duo or core 2 duo is a single physical processor chip with 2 cores inside. Think of it as two physical processors because each core is independent from the other, except for the simple fact that they share the Front Side Bus and the cache.
So don't worry, you have what the sales guy told you, you just didn't understand it the right way. It's ok though, you have us here on the best notebook forum out there to help you out! -
haha lets not even talk about Core Solo, stay away form them, not to confuse you more, just so that you know, theirs a Core Solo, but dont buy it, its a like a Core Duo, but it has only one core, so
Core = processor core (old, slow)
Core 2 = newer processor core (faster)
Duo = dual core (2 cores in one computer)
solo = single core (only one core)
so i hope that clears everything up. -
Yeahm it really does clear my assumptions!!!! Super thx miner, envision and martin!! it really helped me understand what I had.
Although, I was wondering though, envision said that they were 64bit... that means I can run a 64 bit Windows???? because the model I have is a dv6565ca from Hp. If soo, does that mean I could add more ram or am I still limited by the hardware? -
Max is 4GB this is hardware limit.

You have to be running a 64-bit version of Windows in order to take advantage of the processor being 64-bit. The most famous advantage of 64-bit is the fact that it can support more than 3.2GB of RAM, but there is a hardware limit on your laptop like zoidbergslo states of 4GB). Also, 64-bit processing allows the cpu to process twice the amount of data because it uses 64 pipelines instead of the normal 32. There are a lot of applications that are slowly moving to 64 bit, but most are still stuck on 32-bit because that is where the main market is. The nice thing is, you have a future ready computer for when 64-bit really hits the mainstream and all applications are running it.
Also, Vista 64-bit has backwards compatibility so when you get a 64-bit OS, you can still run 32-bit applications inside of it. -
Yay!!!!
but then why did hP put an 32 bit Windows into a freacking 64 bit laptop (dv6565ca)????
Its really dumb (hp) might I add.... hence, could I use a 64 Bit Windows Vista AnyTime Upgrade or do I need a Standalone Vista to install properly 64bit windows on my current 32bit dv6565ca laptop....? -
If you want to upgrade to 64bit you will have to do a clean install, you cannot do an in place upgrade. -
man you guys are good!!!
but here's a real Doucy....!
I know Hp has laptops with an geforce8600gs (gt maby)?
Could I take out my Geforce8400GS and stick one of those in!??? Are there any Issues I could get (OverHeating, Bios settings.... etc..??) -
There is a reason why 32 bit software is still more popular than 64-bit software even though 64 bit processors have been around for a couple of years. It's because you have to essentially rewrite the whole application to port it to a 64 bit operating system. Plus, few applications will benefit greatly from moving to a 64 bit operating system so mainstream adoption of a 64 bit operating system has been slow.
It's simple economics. -

Good luck and happy computing! -
Graphics cards on HP's as well as 90% of laptops are actually a part of the motherboard, which means you can't replace them. If you went with a Sager you would be able to upgrade and replace video cards because they have a pci-x slot instead of soldering the graphics card onto the motherboard. The DV9500t is the only HP laptop that has the 8600m GS, there are no HP laptops that offer the 8600m GT. You could possibly overclock your video card and squeeze a little more performance out of it, but you won't be able to change it out.

But, can I clean Install (threw the Anytime DvD) a 64bit Installation on my 32Bit dv6565caLaptop??
...because in the "Clean Install Guide" by Orev he states that; Can I install a 32bit or 64bit architecture if I have the other one? There is no technical difference between the 32bit and 64bit architectures with regards to activation. That means that if you backup your activation on a 32bit system, then clean install a 64bit version, it will technically work. However, there may be licensing issues with this, so you must determine if you are licensed to do this by looking at the license you have.

thx miner!!!
But Last But Not Least (lolll)...
does my windows anytime cd have Both 32-64bit of do I have to order a 64bit home premium upgrade dvd....? -
I believe if you got a 32-bit version of Windows when you bought the laptop you have to purchase a 64-bit version, because the license is only for the 32-bit version. I'm not 100% sure though.
If you do have to order a 64-bit version of vista, you might as well get ultimate, it has a lot of extra tools, bells, and whistles that are worth the little extra money. -
Which Windows Vista version do you currently have? I'm not 100% sure which CD you need, and I'm also not sure if you can upgrade to 64-bit. Sometimes the OS license doesn't support the availability to upgrade to 64 bit from 32, but thats not always the case. I'm just unsure of it so I don't want to give a solid opinion. I'm sure someone else on this site can help you out and give you a better answer than I could. -
