I'm looking to replace the cracked LCD on my HP NX7400.
It is 1280x800 glossy 15.4", and after taking it out of the computer, I discover it is a Quanta Display, QD15TL02 Rev. 04.
I have on the way to me an Acer 5100-3583 with bad motherboard, which I was hoping to swipe the screen from. From looking at my Acer 5000, the motherboard connections are different.
So, my questions are:
1. Are LCD cables, in general, proprietary...while the actual LCD connectors are standardized?
2. Should the inverter stay with the LCD or with the computer?
3. Do inverters have standardized connectors, or are they made to match proprietary LCD cables?
The big question is: will I need to use both the Inverter and LCD from the 5100, or just the LCD? It looks to me like the connection from inverter to LCD is a standard 2-wires. But is the the other connector standard?

If what you're really asking is how hard it will be to replace your cracked Quanta screen with some random unknown brand, the answer is "pretty hard": The connectors probably won't be located in the same place, and neither will the mounting screw holes. My HP notebook had a couple of different screens available, and the case back, bezel, inverter and hinges are all specific to the particular LCD used!
