I recently purchased a DV2432ca, which is an Intel-based DV2000t-type laptop. I immediately upgraded my bios from version F.26 which came preinstalled to F.34, dated 2007-06-25.

As I was using my laptop, I noticed that closing the lid would not put it in standby or sleep mode. I tried playing with the "Lid Close Action" option in the power settings, only to find out that there was no such option! I then decided to revert back to BIOS version F.26, and once I did that, I got the option back, and was able to program the laptop to go into sleep mode whenever I closed the lid.

The ironic thing is that one of the fixes listed under the F.34 BIOS revision states: "Fixes intermittent issue where screen resolution may be changed after resuming from Standby mode by opening the notebook lid."Perhaps they "fixed" the issue by getting rid of the Lid Close Action trigger completely!

I was wondering if anyone else who has upgraded to this BIOS experienced the same issue. If yes, what would be the best way of reporting this to HP?

Ditto here. I just bought a dv2404ca (AMD based) and noticed that closing the lid only blacks out the display, leaving the notebook running full blast. Upon checking the power options, I could not find anything to set the action on lid close. This must be a bug, my ancient P2-233 notebook could sleep on closure.

My BIOS is reporting F.37, but not only do the HP downloads claim that F.34 is the latest, but they don't list any previous versions!

Does anyone know if there really are any older BIOS versions that I can try?

you probably have a BIOS that hasnt been released yet and if it is buggy then it probably wont

search for AMD models from dv2000 AMD series and see if they have BIOS files

Ok, I checked out the HP support site and it looks like with enough hunting around with other models you can find various versions of the BIOS. So why do they not list the other versions for the 2404? Did hp just screw up or are they unsafe/incompatible with this model? I could try them but I don't want to end up fragging my system.

I tried flashing down to the official F.34, and let Vista re-detect the 'ACPI fixed feature button' in as described in another thread, but still no dice.

as long as it is for the same range of models then it is fine

like i have a dv9000t so any model that is based on this intel laptop is fine for drivers and bios

the dv9500t isnt compatible with mine cuz it uses newer components.

they dont always show the full bios list cuz maybe that model that you have started out with that bios, so if its a new model it would have the latest bios released for that range upon its release.

    Yeah it likely wasn't.

So... is there anyone out there with a 2000-series AMD based notebook, who does have the 'close lid' option available in Vista's power settings? If so, can you tell me what BIOS version you have? (A link would be nice too, since it is just so god-awful trying to find a specific version on that site)

    Thanks.

I was wondering the same thing. I thought maybe Vista wasn't configured properly, but it seems to be a BIOS issue?

I'm at F.34. Even my mom's Acer 3050 can sleep or hibernate when the lid is closed.

I'm going to try to find some older BIOSes out there.

I tried F.22 and F.23. At first I thought I bricked my notebook: it would not boot, and displayed 'Incompatible wireless network adapter present. Remove and Restart'.

Luckily I was able to physically remove the Broadcom WI-FI card easily, in order to boot and re-flash.

It looks like we'll have to wait for the next release.

BTW, when I booted without the WIFI, I did check power options and it did have the ability to assign sleep/hibernate/shutdown to closing of the lid.

    Thanks for the info.

I think it's clear what we need to do now: bug HP support to have this thing fixed.
