Hi folks,
A thread in "What Notebook Should I Buy" has lead me to the nx9420 and it look *almost* perfect. I do have a few questions, if one of you regulars that has one would care to answer...
1. Is there a difference between the WVA screen and the Briteview WVA screen, besides the finish? Obviously the contrast will be slightly better on the glossy, but is it a case of having both finishes available to suit your preference, or is the glossy a major improvement over the matte? Only one config seems to come glossy, but I'd prefer matte anyway if there's not much in it in terms of brightness, colour etc. Briteview doesn't refer to extra/brighter bulbs or anything, does it?
2. Is there any way to BTO these, or are you stuck with the four options at HP's store? I'd actually order from CDW, for reasons of speed, but they have the same four configs.
3. Are there any upgrade quirks I should know about, such as hard drives or RAM? Or will standard parts do the trick? With my current T43, there's a well-known issue with certain brands of HDDs.
4. Edit: one more! With a WVA matte screen (see #1 above), is the brightness uniform from top to bottom when you're sitting in front of it? I saw a Pavillion in a store, and I know it's a different beast, but you went from overly dark to washed out from two feet away without moving your head! Horrible.
Thanks folks!

I haven't seen one yet, so I can't tell you anything specific other than general Glossy vs Matte info. The Glossy display is perfect for movies and entertainment. Yet it is a bit tiring to eye (until you get used to it, at least) so if you do spreadsheets, maybe the Matte will be a wiser choice. I prefer the glossy brightview but it's a matter of preference. The extra brightview has one additional light but I think the brightview is the same as matte in this respect (there are companies that offer just the glossy finish, so you can upgrade your matte screen later).
Yes, the screen should be even in brightness but the viewing angle is somewhat subjective.
