First off I would like to say, this forum needs a better search feature.
I have a couple different questions but find it difficult to sort through 300 pages of topics.
I recently bought the HP ENVY 17 3d notebook with the beats audio etc etc etc.
I saw the topics regarding the SB (Sandy Bridge) and 2.xxxx and 1.xxxx
First question is, how do I tell which ENVY I have?
Second, and the reason I came to this site, when I ordered my laptop the information provided indicated the backlighting on the keyboard would be red in color. I received my laptop and the color is a white backlight. Any idea on when this changed?
I apologize if this topic has already been addressed, as I stated it was hard for me to sort though all the topics. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

My computer specs are as follows:
    HP ENVY 17 3d
    Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2630QM CPU @ 2Ghz
    6GB Ram
    64bit Win-7 OS
    Radeon HD 6850M Graphics card
    1Tb HDD
    Blu-Ray/DL DVD Burner

I think only the Envy 14 Beats edition has the red backlit keyboard.

You must have seen or heard of the envy 14 BEATS EDITION (all the envys have beats audio) which has the red backlighting as well as the computer being black in color. You didn't read that the envy 17 had red backlighting anywhere (that is reputable at least). I'm sure you just misinterpreted the different envys.
You have the second gen i7 processor (hence the 2 in front of the 630) These are known as sandy bridge. They are the newest released so far.

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I bought mine from BBUY but they have since changed the writeup for the PC I purchased, which also seems to always be out of stock now too. I think lots of people were buying it and then getting something different. I'm not complaining about my laptop, so far I love it. So what are the major differences between the first and second gen processors?

    - The second gen (SB/Sandy Bridge) processors has built in graphics in the CPU so a discreet GPU is not needed or can be switched off to save on heat and battery power.

    - The SB CPU's are ~20% faster than their gen1 counterparts.

    - The SB chips run cooler and require less energy, increasing laptop battery times.

I think those are the major points that would interest the average consumer.
