The quick-ship envy 15 is ineligible for coupon codes. However, there is a pretty hefty discount automatically applied, which makes it competitive with coupon-eligible customized envy's.

But here's the good part. The quick-ship envy's are eligible for the student discount. In fact, the customizable envy's are also eligible. However, HP makes you choose between the student discount and a coupon code, so in the case of the customizable envy's you're better going off with the coupon. But the quick-ship envy 15 with the student discount is significantly cheaper than a similarly specced customized envy 15 with the coupon code. Furthermore, the quick ship envy 15 ships within a day and is eligible for free two day shipping.

Personally, this means that I'm going to get a slightly better envy 15 in 2-3 days for $30 less rather than the slightly inferior, slightly more expensive customizable envy that would have arrived a few weeks from the time of my order.

I'm not sure how this applies to the 17" but hopefully this is also the case there.

Big difference between quick ship and CTO models - quick ship only has a 1 year warranty whereas CTO has a 2 year one. Food for thought.

Thanks for letting us know, Don Draper! As for the 17", I think still the 33% coupon gives more discount.

I think that generally speaking, when you factor in the warranty difference, unfortunately the quick ship models are usually not as good a deal as the CTO ones - evening out the specs and warranties will show that CTO is usually a better deal, if you can wait for it to be built.

It varies, but from what I've seen its usually 10-15%. Same as EPP incidentally. I just wish you could combine coupons with them, but sadly, as mentioned above you can't, so student/EPP isn't always the best deal.

Is their any easy workaround to apply a student discount if you're not a student?

Have a friend purchase for you or borrow their student ID?

What exactly do you do to apply the discount?

You have to register for an HPA account with HP, which usually means you select your school from a list and give them your .edu email address.

If you don't have one, just find someone willing to help. The savings on the quick ship model is about $100.

I wonder if HP would catch on when I buy the laptop with a card registered under a different name than that of the student account haha.

Probably will end up buying the Envy 17 quick ship model, unless there is still a 30% off coupon in early February on CTO models and it turns out cheaper than the quickship with student discount.
