I'm really torn between this LT and the Dell 630. Did any of you consider the D630 as well, and may I ask why you chose the 6910p over it?
TIA!

interesting question.. because my work is evaluating them at the moment.
We just finished looking the the Dell 630 and now just started looking at the 6910p.
The Dell was a top unit we rate highly.
Clear differences I can see from initial aspect is that:
* The dell is clearly heavier feeling both of them.
* The HP runs hotter.
* The HP has more bloatware.
* The Dell has a much more rigid chasis
- actually on this point the HP looks tough but has ALOT more flex when you give the keyboard the push down test. And the back of the screen push test. It goes to show the Dell is much more ruggedised. A nice rigid build quality is only really important to me if i expect the laptop to last more then 4 years..
* Price wise I know the Dell 630 has alot of bargining room. The rep went surprisingly low.
At the moment i am leaning towards the dell because the laptop requirement is to last 4 years or more and the Dell chasis appears more up to that task. But dont let that say that the HP isnt a good laptop. It is indeed a good laptop on first appearences. I'm left wondering how it will do in the long term. The way our staff treat laptops we've had nx5000's last just under 3 yrs, n610c's last 3 years, and evo n 1020v's last under 2 yrs b4 they started getting strange problems that HP said could only be fixed by replacing the motherboard. hmmmm... -
BTG, it sounds like you actually have one of each to check them out. If so, how would you compare them as far as size? Also, when you say the HP runs hotter, how much hotter is that? Can it still be kept on the lap?
-
The 6910p doesn't run hot. Using it on my lap, the only part that gets hot is the wireless (right side), and it is bearable.
The construction is sturdier than my nx8220 and I'd expect this to last at least 3 years, and in any case you get a standard 3 yr warranty (I believe so in the States as well).
The main reasons why I bought the HP over the Dell, is that in NZ, the Dell specced similarly is more expensive, and I had a travel battery for the nx8220 which I can use for the 6910p as well (although the capacity is somewhat less than when it was new 2 1/2 yrs ago.
I am not disappointed with my choice! -
I had a chance to check out both of them before I settled on the 6910p. In my opinion the 6910p has a better keyboard, lighter, and looks more professional. You can't go wrong with either one, but in my opinion the 6910p edges out the D630 just slightly.

I checked the d630 out today, as mentioned in this post.
The biggest disappointment were the keyboard and touchpad, neither of which felt smooth. BTG, how do you find them on the hp 6910p as opposed to the Dell? -
Dal, could I trouble you to elaborate more on your findings when comparing the two? I seems like I won't be able to actually see/feel the HP before ordering, but I'm still leaning more towards it, mainly because I disliked the d630's keyboard and touchpad...
