If anyone here owns a HP dv9700t or dv7t, could you post the info for your blu-ray -rom from device manager?

I have been having a problem with my Blu-Ray and I suspect its a driver issue. The information from control panel/device manager states the following...
    --------------------------

    -MAT S H I T A BD-CMB UJ-120 ATA Device
    -Driver Provider: Microsoft
    -driver version: 6.0.6000.16386
    - driver date: 6/21/2006
    -Driver Signer: Microsoft Windows

    Current Region: Region 1

    Device Description: CD-ROM Drive

    Device type: DVD/CD-Rom drives
    Manufacturer: (Standard CD-ROM Drives)
    Location: Location 0 (Channel 0, Target 0, Lun 0)

Status: This device is working properly
    ------------------------------------------
I'm not sure if it should be saying "cd-rom" drive. I tried to update the driver, but it says the driver is up do date. If anyone else's drive reads something different, is it possible to copy the driver information to my computer?

    Thanks in advance...

Sorry. Computer DOES recognize the drive, but does not recognize a Blu-Ray disk in the drive. It plays DVD's but NOT Blu-ray Discs. I figure that the problem has to be with the drive's firmware or driver. That's why I was wondering that the device manager indicated on drive properties on similar PCs.

You need the correct software to play the blu-ray disk. Download the trial version of Power DVD 8 and you will see it will play.

If that doesn't work then it is your drivers, use the Graphics driver that came with the laptop.

Do you have a program called QuickPlay still on your computer? That is HP's blu-ray player. It's free and should have come on the computer. Also, if you are using an external monitor, you must have changed your desktop to show only on the external monitor(tv). The copy protection only allows it to show on one monitor at a time. On my dv5z f4 toggles the monitors.

edit- It looks like you can download QuickPlay from the HP support and driver web site.

Yes, I have quickPlay installed. I even upgraded to the latest 3.7 version. Still a no-go. I noticed that the QP upgrade came from update.cyberlink.com.

I do have Cyberlink's DVD suite installed. Not sure if PowerDVD 8 will make much of a difference. I did not need it in the past when the Blu-ray player worked. I think I may have inadvertantly screwed domthing up on my PC through software installations. System Restore did not work nor did System RECOVERY!!!

This is why I am wondering what you guy's device manager info says. Is it the same as what I posted above? Please let me know.

If you are using video drivers that are not certified then it will not play Bluray, use only the drivers from HP or ones that are modified from laptopvideo2go.com

    djmorgan,

I believe I have the latest video drivers, but what are the modified drivers from laptopvideo2go for? How are they different from the HP ones?

You might want to install the trial for AnyDVD HD which I believe is good for 30 days. It will remove any copy protection controls, which may be why you can play discs. It would at least tell you if the drive is working properly.
