This may be a silly question, but I thought this would be a good place to ask. Yesterday I ordered a dv2500t. I ordered an extra AC adapter also. Now I notice that the "extra" adapter is 90W, while the adapter listed in the specs to come with the notebook says 65W. Am I going to have a problem here?

Wait until the unit(s) arrive. If you see that one adapter is 65W and the other is 90W, then you know you have a problem.

I checked my Power Supply on my DV2500t and it is rated at 65W.

If the spare AC adapter is 90 watts...you'll still be fine. The adapter just has to be voltage and amperage compatible (which all HP notebooks are in the same ballpark). The only thing that would cause a problem is if the physical tip of the plug is different. Another difference is that the 90W adapter may be physically larger brick, in which case you may want to return it for a 65W if you plan to carry it around with you.
I use my 130W HP adapter with my 60W Averatec laptop all the time no problems.
PS, I'm also an electrical engineer -

Are all of these adapters usable overseas? I am considering buying a HP laptop in the US and taking it to the UK

The wattage isn't how much the AC adapter is feeding to your laptop at all times...it is just the maximum it is able to feed. Size considerations aside, the 90W would be the more desireable AC adapter.
I've seen this with some Dell laptops, in which you can choose either a 65W or 90W AC adapter when ordering...with the advantage of the 90W one being that it'll charge your battery faster when you are actively using the laptop. -
Counting the days until my dv2500t arrives--supposed to ship on June 20.
