    Hi
I am having some issues with my notebook, its zv5000z with AMD 64. When I play games( HL-Counter Strike, or Rise of Nations) or run lots of programs, it gets kinda hot. Is this with every AMD notebook? or Should I talk to support so they can check, maybe something is wrong with it?

    Thank you

No, that's normal. You can probably undervolt the CPU with ClockGen though. 1.8GHz @ 1.2V will probably work, 1.3V almost certainly will. AMD was overly conservative with their voltage settings. Use MobileMeter to monitor CPU speed and temps. Hot CPU Tester is good for verifying the changes.

Thank you. What exactly ClockGen does?

    OKay, thank you
I ran this HOT CPU Tester, I didn't finish, it only had a chance to run 4 times, but my temperature was around 60C, sometimes it would jump to 65-69C. Is it normal? I didn't change core volatage yet though, I am newbee, so if I change it, what will it do to my notebook?

    Thank you again

Undervolting is safe, worst thing is that you may lock up your notebook, in which case hold down the power button for 4 seconds to force shutdown and try again. Setting higher core voltages would be dangerous but I think the BIOS won't let you set beyond 1.55V (1.5V is the normal full-speed core voltage). You'll need to set your power scheme to "Always On" (disables PowerNOW!) to use ClockGen. (Normally you'd want to use the Portable/Laptop scheme.)

The cooling fans don't seriously kick in until about 60C. 60C-70C is normal under full load.

BTW, you need ClockGen for nForce3 motherboards if you want to play with undervolting. Your CPU normally runs at 1.8GHz at 1.5V, 81W max power consumption. If you can get away with 1.2V like I think you can, that'll cut max power to 35W. 1GHz @ 0.85V is nice too, cuts max power to around a dozen watts.

Are you sure that this is CPU that spits out a lot of heat? You say it happens while you are gaming, right? I also have AMD64 and when I run simulations for the whole night the bottom of a laptop becomes a little bit warm(not hot). But it gets warmer if I am playing games. Maybe the graphics card is to blame?

Games are a lot more CPU & GPU intensive than office applications or web surfing. It's completely normal for a notebook to heat up when playing games. Pentium M's will also get warmer than normal when playing games.

I don't know what makes it hot, but I am trying to change voltage. After I change it to say 1.3V, do I press apply "VID"? Cause I did it, and my frequency didn't change, it is 1.8GHz, atleast that what mobilemeter says. oh, yeah, I changed power setting to "always on".

Hey, after I change voltage to 1.3, I ran Hot CPU Tester. Temperature didn't go over 58C, I guess its working :). Thanks
