I am still deciding what laptop to get and I thought I had decided on the zx5000 series, but after hearing everything about the AMD 64 is that a better processor? My laptop will be used as a desktop replacement (and I must have me pc games). Any advice?

I've been searching the web and there's a lot of debate regarding which CPU is better. I still haven't found an answer. But, if you're main concern is games, then you should really be looking at what video card & how much video memory it has. The higher end CPU's in the market currently will be able to handle all games that are currently out, but if you have a lower end video card, it's not going to work.
The ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 and up or an Nvidia GeForce FX Go 5200 and up with dedicated memory will be your best bet for support for the latest games IMHO.

Venombite is right about the video card.

And for the CPU I'd say the AMD 64 is much beter then any Pentium 4.

I have the HP zv5000z with AMD 64 3400+, and it's better than any Pentium based computer I've worked with. Including high end Pentium 4 moldels.

But I didnt think the video card in the zv5000z was very good compared to the Radeon 9600 in the zx5000 series

No, the video card in the ZV series is an ATI 9000 IPG with Shared video memory (shares the system memory for video). This is not a recommended video card to use for playing games or doing any highend graphics. The P4 chip is fine, but the latest technology would be the AMD64.
