    Hi,
    sorry,something wrong with my thread...
I have an HP Pavilion dv6t-6xxx quad edition with i7-2670QM CPU.
recently I found the temperature of 6770M can reach 90 degrees even though I don't play any game.
And it can reach 110 degree when I play game such as battle field 3.
I am using 12.3 WHQL unifL now.

Is the fan working? If yes then reapply thermal paste.

    HI,thanks for your helping.
    the fan is working.
I have tried to reapply thermal paste yet,but it doesn't work and the temperature is still high.
I notice my CPU never work over 90 degree,I don't know what's wrong with the GPU.

When I change GPU from intel 3000HD to 6770M,the initial temperature of the GPU is 60 degree.but it increase so fast.

So you have reapply the thermal paste for both CPU and GPU? 90c on idle is totally wrong.

try revert to 12.2 or 12.1 because 12.3 have sticky clock problem but still.. i don't think it can make your GPU idle temp that high. Maybe the heatpipe on your GPU broken?

Have you tried a different temperature monitoring software? 110 degrees Celsius sounds like a melted computer, but 110 degrees Fahrenheit is about normal for a gaming session.

I tried to use 12.2 and 70c on idle now.many thanks!
I used CPUID&AIDA64 to monitor temperature and the results are matched.

still really worried about gaming temperature...

70 is way too high, what is your ambient temperature?

Try to clean the fan and see if you can shave a few degrees off.
Also what power plan you using?

I have cleaned the fan when I reapplied the thermal paste already.it seems like no help.
what I am curious about is temperature of CPU is ok.
I am using HP recommended as my power plan.

check in advanced power setting and see if the min processor state is 5%.
They share the same heat sink so it may helps. Typically my GPU and CPU temp is about the same when idle.

my GPU temp never went over my CPU temp. my guess is either the heatsink didn't make contact on the gpu die or u have a faulty heatpipe/s.

The CPU and (external) GPU are two different chips, and if the GPU is getting as hot as you say, but the CPU is within normal temperature ranges, "I" would assume the computer has not been reassembled correctly (or something broke) and the heat sink is not even making contact with the GPU, even though the CPU/heat sink contact seems to be okay. My GPU approaches 70c tops, even when the CPU is in the 90s. This is NOT an easy computer to disassemble/reassemble without damaging things, and it amazes me more post like this don't exist.

this problem occurred gradually and seriously,so before I tried to disassemble the machine, this problem existed actually.
I should have sent it to customer service to repair this ugly problem before replace with 1080p screen.

That's weird. I have 6770m and laptop automatically shutdowns when temperatures increase more than 90 degrees Celsius. You should definitely send it to customer service.

It is not that hard to restore it to look like factory assembled. And first thing they do is not lift off your heatsink and check if the paste is ok.

I came here to complaint my unhappy experience in the customer service center.
They tried to persuade me to admit this temperature(up to 110 degrees) is normal because quality of HP computer in China and aboard is different.
    I feel sick really.
They replied to replace heatpipe next week finally.hope it can work.

I have got an HP Dv6-6030ST.
I have all the same problem with you guys. I see 112 C when the 6770M working. It starts working at 60 C then suddenly increase up to 112 C in 2 mins. I tried every possible way, I don't have any idea what to do. I cant send to service unfortunately.
I cleaned the fan, refreshed the thermal paste, updated the BIOS, tried Manufacturer, Beta, WHQL and 3. Party drivers.
I suspect it's heat sensor, its looking like damaged. Is it a changeable part? Or do you have any advice? Im so helpless :/
