    hey all,

My HP Notebook (in sig) I formatted and reloaded so I had to reinstall all the HP drivers and such. Everything is smooth but I noticed there was an AMD Processor update available. Pretty sure I didn't have it installed on my last windows copy.

Claims to "This package contains an AMD Processor update for some notebook models running the Microsoft Windows XP Operating System. The AMD Processor Update for Microsoft Windows XP enables the system to dynamically and automatically select the processor speed, voltage, and power combination to instantaneously match the user performance need.
    "
Is this worth installing and/or what am I missing without it?

It is just a newer processor driver with updates to PowerNow. If your cpu is throttling correctly, then you don't really have to use the new driver. If you want to, be sure to uninstall the previous driver before installation. AMD cpu driver packages have a tendency to uninstall the old one without ever installing the new one, leaving you with no PowerNow at all.

This refers to speed-stepping. You need the latest AMD driver to conserve battery power and decrease heat (throttle back to 800 mhz when you don't need the CPU).
Yet, you'll be better of if you undervolt your processor by using RMClock. It will take care of speedsteps and voltages much better.

AMD.com even has a newer version than posted at hp. I think the OS cpu driver from the cpu oem is a safe bet.
