At last. 64 bit & dual core on one notebook chip. This looks like an ideal chip for the DV8000 and other HP models.
How quickly has HP moved in the past in terms of adopting the latest AMD chips. The lag was not to bad on the Intel duo version of the DV8000.
Does any one have any insight? This may be the reason why HP has not bothered upgraded the ATI 200, despite the nearly universal complaint of the weak graphics package. A dual core 64 bit computer with a decent graphics card would be sweet.

When the Turions were released they updated their line pretty quickly(cant really remember how long it took them but it was just around the initial release. So, if the the chips are available in good quantity they should be out with the X2's probably sometime after the launch.

This is what has me waiting.

If HP comes out with a 17" Turion X2 with a decent nVidia GPU (a 7600 Go would be adequate, but a 7900GTX would be worth the extra battery and heatsink size and weight I think), I'll upgrade again. I didn't expect the X2 to be available so soon (I like my dv8000z but dual core and a proper GPU would be nice to have). Please, please HP, don't limit us AMD64 users to low-end GPUs again...

They have me waiting too. I almost bit on Fujitsu LifeBook N6410 Notebook that has Intel's Core Duo Processor and a nice graphics card. I will wait the few months to buy a machine (HP, I hope), which should viable in three years.

As for the Intel Duo, they started taking order soon around the time it was released but there was a ~3-4 weeks waiting time for assembly (marketing strategy?). I guess HP will put the new model on the web as soon as the CPU is released.

Yeah, I've been looking at the dv8000z/t as well. I've been a big fan of AMD (always had 'em in my desktops), and it sure would be nice to have the dual core and the 64 bit together. What about price, though? Will the X2's be more expensive than the regular Turions? Or, is it typical that the Turions will drop and the X2's will be close to current regular Turion prices?

In answer to my own question and the perhaps to the pricing question, I tracked down the following on the web:
"Notebook makers in Taiwan predict that AMD's first batch of dual-core Turion 64 mobile processors, which will reportedly be released on May 9, may start a price war in the dual-core notebook market sooner than expected. AMD is expected to offer better prices for its Turion 64 X2 CPU line than comparable offerings from Intel, indicated the makers.
New Turion 64 X2 models from Acer, Asustek Computer and Hewlett Packard (HP) are planned to arrive in May, indicated the sources, expecting that a price war in the dual-core notebook market may move forward."

Watch also for the mobile Athlon 64 x2 on socket AM2. This is for desktop replacement so it is more likely to be in a DV8000 like notebook. It will be released on June 6. The Turion x2 equipped laptop is expected to hit shelf in Mid May according to a source in HK.

I would be competitive to Intel Duo.
