Shopping for a notebook and i've narrowed it down to two HP Pavilions, with a few notable differences and I'm trying to decide which is the more valuable option:

    zv6000

    AMD Athlon(TM) 64 3500+ (2.2GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
    15.4" WXGA BrightView Widescreen (1280x800)
    128MB ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/Hypermemory(TM)
    1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
80 GB 5400 RPM Hard Drive
    LightScribe 8x DVD+/-RW&CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer
    54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
    12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    $1,319

    ***VS***

    ze2000z

    AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-34 (1.8GHz/1MB L2 Cache)
    15.0" TFT XGA BrightView (1024x768)
    ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200M w/productivity ports
    1.0GB DDR SDRAM (2x512MB)
80 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
    DVD+/-RW/R & CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer Support
    54g(TM) Integ. Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN & Bluetooth
    12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

    $1,349

The thing is, I've maxed on all the options for the ze2000z (Turion model), but I'm willing to spend a few hundred more to upgrade the zv6000 to an AMD 3800+ 2.4GHz, not to mention it has better graphics, screen and higher RPM's. I searched and searched for any similar deals on PC's with Turion 1.8 or 2.0 but Turion is SCARCE right now (guess it's still kinda early being it was just released)...

I don't do alot of gaming (every now and then), mostly this puter will be DL'ing hella music files nonstop via satellite broadband (I live in remote rural area) and used for internet browsing/research/newsgroups etc. Accessing Wi-Fi hotspots while travelling is a must (I understand Athlon uses more battery power, but I can't see spending more than 3 hours @ a time unplugged). I'd rather not support Intel by buying a Centrino outfit, and like the idea of 64 bit upgrade-readiness (feel free to comment on this), so that is why I'm going AMD 64...

    OPINIONS?

ze2000z? never heard of such a model (although it looks pretty good)

go with the turion model because the processor has a lower power consumption, meaning better battery life. My friend has the zv6000 with the 8-cell battery and he says it lasts about 2 1/2 hours average.

Between the two I'd get the zv6000. Yes, it's a little heavier, but battery life is good enough with a 12 cell and I really like widescreens.

You might want to hold out for the L2000 Special Edition (ships June 22nd), that Turion notebook is much more interesting (and lighter) than the ze2000z.

If traveling is important to you, I'd wait for the L2000 special edition. I had to make the same decision, but i chose the ZV6000 because I knew it wouldn't leave my desk very often, but 8 lbs. probably isn't something you would want to travel with often.

if your going to do any sort of 3d gaming you would have to go with the zv6000. the ze2000z would run solitare pretty nicely but not much else.

but if you decide on the zv6000 then configure a r4000, for the same specs you can get it for $1,268.00 the only difference is the desigh which i personally like better.

My main complaint/beef with these latest T64 models are that they only offer 4200RPM Harddrives & NO widescreens [ :(!]
