    Guys,

I have a 30 day old Compaq V2000 I bought on special at BB during the Labor Day weekend. I LOVE this machine, BUT.... recently it's developed a very random problem that's giving me fits.

BTW, this seems to only happen when I'm plugged into the power supply and doesn't appear to happen when I'm running strictly on battery. Also, I have two different power supplies and the behavior happens regardless of which power supply I'm plugged into.

OK, here's the behavior. After the computer has been running for some time (1-2 hours) and following some inactivity, if I TOUCH the laptop anwhere on the chasis (touch, not jostle or shake) the laptop instantly powers off. THis is NOT a hibernate feature, it literally powers off without shutting itself down. Obviously this is NOT a good situation for my primary work laptop.

I purchased the BB extended warranty (they told me how much better it would be for handling problems) and their solution is to send the unit off for two weeks, but warned me that because this is a very random problem they could make no promises.

Can anyone suggest something that I can look at on the machine that might help with this behavior?

    All suggestions welcome!

You can't do anything. It sounds like a short. I'd take it in and demand an exchange on site. It's been just a month and you have a defective and potentially dangerous product. Be a hard enough ass about it and they'll switch it for you. If they don't call the credit card company and see what options you have.

    BRADESP -
Just wanted to know if you found an answer to your problem?
    Do you have a v2000 or a v2000z (pen m or turion/sempron)?

I hope that you got your issue resolved and i hope that thats not a normal problem with v2000z's cuz im about to buy one (turion).

Let me know what happened and ur configs - thanks!
