In my V2000z ATI panel, it is always taking Performance as Active Settings irrespective of Preferred settings. I also observed many times it is showing as Plugged-in even when it is running on battery.
This is with latest driver from HP downloads(6.14.10.6561). Initially I thought may me some settings are wrong, but it is consistent.
But if Disable and Enable PowerPlay checkbox once, setting will take affect. So, everytime I have to do that to get Preferred setting working.
Is anyone seeing the same problem? or if anyone has any easy solution for this?
Any pointers will be appreciated.
Thanks
Chinna

See the attached images. ( I took snapshots when it is running on battery)
Observe the Active Settings and Preferred settings.
It seems the problem is two fold.
1. It can not detect if the laptop is running on Batteries and always assumes it is Plugged-in.
2. The Preferred settings are not taking affect and always selects the Performance mode.
Am I seeing much dreaded ATI software issues.( I like ATI hardware, but hate ATI lousy software).Attached Files:

I use ATI radeon drivers from ATI web site directly. I has three settings for powerplay. Plugged-in, high battery and low battery. It detect the battery and plugged in status properly. I use optimal battery life setting for both high and low battery states and as soon as i unplug the system it changes the active configuration to "Optimal battery Life".
Now, how much battery life it saves has to be seen. -
Can you check which version you have? And also are you running some thing like RM Clock?
-
mine is working correctly too even with RMclock on or not.
maybe u need to reinstall the windows or the ATI's driver? -
Mine is working properly. The driver version is 6.14.10.6539 from 4/11/2005. I'm not sure but I may have downloaded it from windows update...
Chinna_n, could you please tell me what your driver for Realteck ethernet card is? I'm having issues with it as it cannot restore connection after standby and I think it's a software issue. Thanks -
About the Realtek network driver, I have the version 5.621.304.2005 dated 03-16-2005. I think it is included with Windows. The driver supplied by HP is not required(not even the right one I guess as it mentions a Gigabit Network adapter and this is not a gigabit one).
I really did not observe that much about standy issues as I mostly using Wireless. And adding to that I use RM CLock and PowerSaving is set to Home/Desktop, so I am not sure if I will see the same. -
Thanks, I have the same one. I figured out what was causing the problem - dual firewall.. yeah I used Kaspersky anti-hacker and windows firewall. Now it's OK.
As for the uninstallation of the ATI drivers, I think you can simply upgrade them because they should not be bad, they are just missing something. -
Chinna,
I was having your exact issue, where the Powerplay would get "stuck". I completely removed the driver with DriverCleaner from www.driverheaven.net, installed the Catalyst 5.10 and the issue was resolved. Hopefully that will work for you too. -

Now, I know the exact problem.
ATI Hotkey poller service must be running to be able to use PowerPlay feature. I am not sure why this is linked to this one. I installed new driver, every thing started to work fine. Then I disabled Hotkey poller as part of my quest to reduce unnecessary services, problem is back again. Suspecting that service, I turned it on, low-and-behold it automatically picked the Power status and changed the PowerPlay setting as per our preference.
SO, DO NOT TURN OFF HOTKEY POLLER SERVICE if you want PowerPlay feature to work. One lesson learned. -

Ah, so that's what that does..
Yes, one more little tip - make sure you have the .NET Framework installed in order to use the latest ATI drivers properly - it lists that under the requirements. -
where is this HOTKEY POLLER SERVICE ? I cannot find it. I have something like ATI taskbar icon application but powerplay works regardless of it
-
click start > run > type "msconfig" (w/o quotes) and go to the services tab. It should be there.
-
yeah, found it. thanks
I'm too lazy to try it now, though -
You can also go to Control Panel--> Administation Tools --> services. -
Kind of out of topics. For those who have not noticed, MS releases an enhanced version of msconfig last month.
Strange, the hotkey poller, being used to detect keyboard shortcut for the video card, affects performance setting. Could be caused by an unexpected programming dependency. -
