Whats up all, I have been reading the posts about this graphic card for quite a while and to be honest its quite contrary.. based on what i have the performance of the card is totally dependednt on your setup....
Well this is mine
dv5000z
Processor - turion 2.0 ghz (64 bit ready)
H/DRIVE - 80g 5400 rpm
Memory 1gig
video ati radeon xpress 200m 128 discreet with hypermemory
well its on order i have not gotten it yet now tell me what can this lappy do and what cant it do.....
I am no hardcore gamer by the way but, i do play games sometimes so it must be able to run the lates titles, but from what i have read so far some say it will some say it wont so i thought id put in my specs and you all can advise me what i can or can not run on this lappy....
Another issue i was reading a thread where you guys actually can use a utility to increase the clock speed (on the card), if i do this and use hypermemory to get system memory making 256 in total will it perform any better ???
I have seen posts that say when you use the additioanl 128 from the system memory it slows down the machine etc....
OR DO I NEED TO SEND IT BACK ???![]()

It will play most games, but you have to turn down the settings. It is not for hardcore gaming. But for mid and mild use, its pretty good -- much better than competitors integrated graphics solutuions.
-
I don't care what the folks say that it won't play games well, it does and can outplay any of the other notebooks that has integrated graphics cards. This one has 128 dedicated mmory and that is a good thing. -
This card gets knocked quite a bit because of its "integrated" form. The 128 dedicated card is pretty good. You can't expect to play any current game on high but a buddy of mine has it in his 5000z and its plays BF2 alright at low/med settings.

How is the nvdia7400 go compare to this ati radeon 200m? Which is with the intel chip package that I ordered.
I would like to run game call The sims 2 on it, should be fine with nvdia 7400 go ?
Anyone here have experience with the performance of The Sims 2 on
Dv8000 series laptops ? thanks in advance. -
Hi Folks,
My DVD 5030Z runs consistant 1530 in 3dMark03. i have no problems running Doom3 in second highest res setting. Though when I ran Resurrection Evil with source mods for Original Doom it ran unacceptably. However with just the Resurrection evil mod running it was fine. Will it run Sim2, don't really know. I don't have it so I can't say. I agree that there is a great disarpity beyween different machines using this chip set. The major deliniator seems to be those that have dedicated 128 meg and those that don't. Mine has the dedicated setup and runs pretty much everything I've thrown at it with the above noted exception. Granted it won't touch my desktop, but then I don't think there is a whole lot of lappies in the under $2000 range that will. -
I briefly owned a V2000z and DV5000z. Both of these machines are pretty nice. The V2000Z was shared memory GPU setup, I felt it a little sluggish as 512MB and I was pretty surprised at the heat comming out of the touch pad so I decided on a DV5000z with the Dedicated 128MB.
I did some tweaking and was able to get 759 3dMark05. This comes in at about 20 to 30% faster than the shared memory version of the same chip. However, how much better is 2FPS vs. 4FPS? I don't know how demanding the most powerful games are these days, but I'm thinking that this chip may be able to run some of the current games today but it won't be much longer before it won't be able to run the new and improved crop. It just seems that there is a huge gap between this chip and the next more powerful chip running at up to 1300 3dMark05, radeon X300 128.
Here is a list of all laptop graphics cards

im very happy w/ mine. However, last time time i played anything was back around december lol. By no means is my machine sluggish either.

Hey guys, I'm facing a similar dilemma; I've been looking at getting an HP dv8240us with the following specs:
AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology MD-40 2.2GhZ with 1mB L2 cache
2GB DDR-SDRAM at 333MHz
200 GB harddrive at 4200 RPM
LightScribe DL DVD+/-RW
Since I'm going to be doing a far bit of travelling, this is going to be my desktop replacement. What can I expect my system limits to be? I play games along the lines of Star Wars Empire at War, Battlefield 2, Rome: Total War, Guild Wars, and Rise of Legends.
Do I have a hope of being able to play any new games with this system, If I choose later down the line? -
As is the 200m will play modern games, albeit at low-mid resolutions and most eye-candy turned off. That doesn't give it much hope for future games. You should really get the best graphics solution out there, especially if you're playing games like Guild Wars and BF2. -
guildwar , the sims2 both play great at max settings with 7400go

Well, I have a dv5030us. It has a Turion ML-37 at 2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 100GB 4200RPM HDD, and the Radeon Xpress 200M with 128MB dedicated memory.
I only play one game. Unreal Tournament 2004. I play it at 1280x800x32 highest texture setting, highest character detail, everything turned on, LOD management to lowest, physics to lowest.. and it runs great. Not the 60+fps you'd get with a desktop, but I"m happy with the 30-40fps I get with those settings. A couple of maps can bog down, like Inferno. But that's only because that map has some insane levels of texture detail. About 90% of the game runs beautifully. I can drop the resolution down to 1024x768x32 and set textures and character detail to normal and the game runs silky smooth.
I did run through Half-Life 2 as well. I ran it at 1280x800x32 with "DirectX 9" and full details on everything. It ran under 30fps, but it looked amazing. There were a couple of spots where the frames dropped kind of low, but most of the game was playable.
Theres also a nice little tweak you can do. Go to the Graphics Hardware forum here and look for the "Will the Xpress 200m Play..." thread thats VERY long. Theres a program in there called A64 tweaker. Use Anti-Hero's settings. It gives a VERY noticable performance boost and it doesn't hurt your hardware at all. Using those settings, the couple of spots on UT that chugged play smoothly. It also gives a noticable bump in speed in other applications, like encoding video to h.264 or transcoding recorded TV shows to DVD.
Oh, I forgot to mention that Aero Glass in Windows Vista runs beautifully on the 200M as well. The performance is perfectly smooth and even the older betas with Aero Glass run faster than Windows XP in that regard.
Media Center runs perfectly smooth too. Media Center is actually a DirectX 9 app if you're wondering. There isn't any studdering and all of the transitions are flawless. If you do plan to use Media Center for DVDs and recording/watching TV, I'd HIGHLY recommend the $20 for the nVIdia PureVideo codec. It's MUCH better than the Intervideo on HP gives you. The image quality is better is better and it uses far less CPU time. It handles deinterlacing the TV signal A LOT better too.
I'd say the 200M with dedicated memory is VERY good for an intergrated card. It gets knocked on a lot for being intergrated, but I only think those who downplay it are the ones who have no experience with it. It does everything I want it to, plays my games at perfectly playable levels, and it is fully compatible with Windows Vista.
One last thing, don't use the "hypermemory" if you don't have to. I noticed a pretty significant drop in performance when I used that setting in UT2k4. You would get a better performance boost if you just lowered the texture resolution instead of upping the memory available.
You'll be happy with your system. Definitely. Don't let the naysayers get you down about the 200M. It's surprisingly good for an intergrated card and will be able to keep up with whatever you throw at it, as long as you keep it reasonable.
A little side note before I finish this novel I'm posting.. If you're getting a 6 cell battery with your system, use the "max battery life" setting in power schemes and set the ATI drivers to "maximum performance". Even with Wifi on and some pretty heavy web browsing, you can pull off around 3 hours of battery life. -
Would the X200M (128 Dedicated) run Aero fine?

The 200M runs Aero Glass great. It looks good and runs flawlessly in the Windows Vista betas I have tried so far. I would run Vista full time if there were drivers for the sound card.
