I have installed XP sucessfully on my DV6000t CTO and later, VISTA (just to... u know... just in case I need to update it later... nah, just to show off, LOL, some people think that VISTA is... THE ULTIMATE!! but... we know what exactly is) Anyhow...

Spike (LOL, thats the name for the laptop) cant run VISTA Premium or VISTA Ultimate... when I make a clean Install at the end is just... VISTA BASIC? Guys... correct me if im wrong... honestly, I just sign up in this forum because this is the BEST Forum ever about notebook computers, I find out what exactly I want for a laptop and all the reviews all the problems that everybody has we can shared it here...

Now... is there something that im doing wrong? I think someone told me that if I install VISTA and my computer actually doesnt have the power to run the AERO Effect it wont install it... still it would only run the BASIC feature... I havent read anything about that yet... but... if someone knows a treat only that it was post before, just let me know!!!

    Spike Specifications Are:

    1.66 dual core (T5200)
    1 GB Mem
    7400 Nvidia
    80GB 5400 rpm

I think those specifications are enough to run Aero, right? or do I need to have 2 gbs of mem to run it? VISTA actually says... 3.6 of... crap!! Windows Experience? cant remember... anyway... it would be great if someone can help me in this one...

    THANKS!!!

The version of Vista that you install is dependent on the serial code you put in. If you're using the HP upgrade, you probably have Vista Home Premium. You can change the serial in control panel to upgrade it, afaik.

That'll be fine for Aero :)

    Ohhh thats why!!!!

I install the code that I submit... which I ordered my DV6000T was under VISTA Basic... so, you are saying that that my code for VISTA is actually a code to work only for VISTA BASIC? thats it? That I need to upgrade the Code to USE Vista Premium or Ultimate??

Yes, when you purchased your Vista Premium (or Ultimate) license from Microsoft, it included a code. Use that one.

    Guys, thanks!!!

Now I have Spike running VISTA and AERO... I need to get used to it and also play a little bit with those effects... but they just look.... pretty... thats it... soon, I would get tired of it...

A friend tells me... GO TO LINUX!!! But there's a lot of incompatibility with HP drivers in there... he show me the effects on linux and they were really cool!!!

    Anyway... THANK U GUYS!!!

    Two words: Software and drivers.

Most of the open source software are good, but not enough to compete with their professional competitors. (Photoshop, Illustrator, inDesign, etc...)

Installing and finding drivers are a pain in Linux...

As long as the hardware is supported, it's not that tough at all (ususally autodetected).

Also agree. Tried Ubuntu 7.04, no go. The software will install with the text based version, but won't start up. When you go on the Ubuntu forums, the messages are spread out everywhere. Meaning they don't have a one stop guide for installing Ubuntu on the DV6500T. That's why I gave up, reformatted, and went with XP/Vista only..

I'm sure it can be done, but you'd have to hang out on the Ubuntu forums, and install one driver at a time until you get them all. It would probably take a few weeks to do.

XP and Vista can be done in a couple hours. And even if there are yellow question marks in the device manager, the OS will still work.

yup, did the same on my other computer.... it was taking too long. finally i realized that if it works, it would take several weeks (and lots of headaches) just to get it to work.... then soon after a new version is released. and then it starts all over again.
