Hello everyoneI'm new here (been lurking for a while actually) and I'm looking to purchase an HP dv2000t through Costco.com (best deal so far, plus you can't beat a 6 month return policy
). I've read the reviews on this model and I know about the screen issues... Now, when you choose your customized options, Costco has a free upgrade to the WXGA BrightView Widescreen. My question is, does the screen manufacturer issue apply to the upgraded BrightView screens? Or are they automatically the QDS screen?
And if anyone has had any experience with ordering through costco.com, how was it?
Thanks in Advance!

No, it doesn't help at all. I just got my DV2000T in with Brightview screen and it is the SEC screen ;p. I might return my notebook and not bother getting a new one, as the SEC screen seems rather common right now, with few people getting the better screens within the last month or so.
Has anyone in the month of October gotten a non-SEC screen when ordering a custom laptop, either through Costco or HP direct??
I might keep the SEC screen, but it does seem a little dim. I havent compared it to one of the better screens yet, so ignorance might be bliss?? -
how did u know u got the SEC?
-
oh darn...
I wonder if I could call costco.com's customer service and actually ask them to make sure they send me a non-SEC screen model to save them the hassel of me returning it for one if I don't! LOL. But other than it being dim, is it really THAT bad?

I just started using the notebook today and havent had a brightview screen before so I am still getting used to it. It doesn't seem that bad other than not being as bright as some other screens I have glanced at. However, I still need to look more at the picture quality for playing DVDs, etc. I think I read some complaint about noiseness in a white background?
HP Fan - I replied to your PM about how to check the screen. It's under system properites, device manager, monitor, plug and play - properties/details. -
I ordered in mid-August, and I got the crappy SEC screen.

Little test to see how good you guys are
I'm running a non-standard OS install so the wording may be differant, but when I go to device manager, monitor, plug and play - properties/details..... I don't see "plug and play"
I see (3) listings
Default Monitor
Digital Flat Panel ( the built in LCD, NO external monitor connected)
Generic Televison
In the properties under the device instance I see:
Default_Monitor=
Display\Default_Monitor\5&88817FD&0&00000100&01&05
Digital Flat Panel ( the built in LCD, NO external monitor connected)
Display\MS_0003\5&88817FD&0&00000100&01&05
Generic Televison
Display\PNP09FE\5&88817FD&0&00000100&01&05
Am I looking in the right place?
Can anyone ID the panel? -
wearenotalone - I am not quite 100% certain but I believe(MS...) is a generic name that Windows assigns when the model number is not recognisable. It happens in some cases. Maybe the screen is from a different manufacturer who does not want to identified or purposely masks the make/model number.
I might be wrong but thats my theory anyways. -
The same goes for the R4000 under Vista, as that actually has "Microsoftxxxxxx" under Device ID (or something to that effect). -
Guess I'll resort to plan "B", I'm thinking that maybe if I put the stock hard drive back in with the factory OS load it will show something....
BTW: In case it helps anyone who may run across this thread in the future during a (Gasp!!) "search"... the above id strings are from a:
