I am about to buy a new HP, either the dv6000t series or the dv9000t series. The only decision is the size. For portability, the 6000 seems better. For sitting in you lap, the 6000 would seem better. For sitting in the back seat of a car while taking a trip with either your wife or daughter driving while your catching up on some work, the 6000 would seem the choice.

However, what about research and writing? Is the screen size and resolution of the dv9000 such that you can have two windows open side by side and easily read the respective docs without having to do side-to-side scrolling? I suspect I couldn't do that with the 6000 (too small a screen), but I could be very wrong. I have no way of checking it out. I know I can't do it with my four-year-old hp pavilion ze4200: too much side-to-side scrolling.

The question is: how would the 9000 be?

Or, what about getting the dv6000 for better portability and a separate display for my main work place and use both screens for any two applications?

    Thanks for your help.

I'm a student and I have the dv6000z series. I'm doing my thesis right now, and it works well for me. But I also have a 2 screen desktop computer as well.

Last night I pulled an all nighter, I was fine with my breakfast tray and sat in my lazy chair. Apart from the lack of sleep, I was fine.

I would personally take the smaller one. Actually I prefer 14'' as I rely on mobility.
17'' is way too bulky for a student IMO

If I were still a student, I would definitely go with the 15.4. However, my dissertation was completed a few years ago with the subsequent graduation. :) Basically I am just trying to determine if I can put two documents on the same screen with the dv9000t without having to scroll from side to side.

I'm really leaning to the dv6000t (15.4) but I just wanted to make sure before I made the decision. If I can put two docs on the same screen without having to scroll from side to side with the dv9000t (17), that would make the larger display more attractive.

    I remember those all nighters.

How do you like your HP with the AMD? What size processor do you have? Have you had any heat issues because of the processor?

    Thanks.
