Hi. Im sorting out a HP DV1000 for a friend (fresh install). Got it all done, but noticed it wasnt keeping the time. Ive got it to auto update every 60 seconds, which is ok as long as your connected to the net. I want to put a new CMOS battery in, but I cant find it. Ive had the main battery out and the covers for HDD/CPU and memory but cant see it? Any ideas if its accessible from one of those or do I have to completely strip the laptop down?
cheers

Remove the keyboard. It will probably be under there.

Go poke around the HP's website. You will find a service manual for most models.

you will have to open the laptop up.

You'll have to remove the bottom of the laptop to get to the motherboard. I believe the battery is accessible without having to actually remove the motherboard, but I don't remember for sure. The battery is a rechargeable button cell, can't remember the exact type.
As HPpavilion said, there is a service manual on HP's site which will tell you exactly how to get in there. As I recall it will tell you to remove the display, but from my experience that's not necessary to remove the bottom.
