I have had my HP notebook for about 2 years already, which i bought from bestbuy. I bought it with a 3 year accidental warranty, and frankly to be honest there are lots of malfunctions with this, and i want a new one. So, if was to "accidently" drop my notebook down a flight of concrete stairs, and the laptop is still in tact, but the OS system is so damage it wont run, can i go to best buy and get a new laptop? My excuse would be my backpack zipper broke when i was walking down a flight of stairs, my attempt to save it has only brought it to it's doom.

Has anyone ever tried this? and does the accidental warranty work for cases like these? comments, stories please?

If it has lots of malfunctions, take it in to BB for repair; deciding "oh I'm done with this laptop" and tossing it down a flight of stairs isn't a great plan. Needless to say, it has its problems.

    What are the malfunctions?

The accidental warranty covers accidental damage. Spills, etc, but I would read the wording of it VERY carefully before attempting anything as a lot of stuff is not covered-- never mind the fact that it is warranty fraud.

P.S. if it's damaged accidentally, and you go to get it replaced, they give you another one. It's not like they just refund the cost of the computer and you can go buy a different one. If you're DONE with HP, then go buy something else...it doesn't make sense to me to get the HP replaced.

Not sure about the BB warranty, however, I have had similar (legitimate) claims, and after some amount of time, the warranty company will often depreciate the unit, and send a gift card for what they think it might be worth.

I guess this is where the fine print counts, and yet another reason why I buy the HP warranty, after having experienced the 3rd party repair cycle.

I also agree that posting the question about the "accident" is not so bright, and will go on to say that this is one reason why these warranties are so expensive, as we all pay for the fraud factor. If everyone did this, there would be no accidental coverage available.

I encourage the original poster (and any readers with the same idea) to do the right thing.

I dont think Best Buy offered a Accidental warranty 2 years ago.

It was just a regular 3 year warranty.

Actually the biggest Uhaul truck is a 26'. :p

I wish I had accidental warranty on my old laptop. The hinges for the screen broke, and now the screen is hanging on by the wires. I was thinking of extending the wires and put the screen on the wall (like a tv), but it would have been too much work trying to figure everything out. I ended up buying a dv6700z (in my sig) from officemax and I bought the 2 year warranty.

I posted pics in a thread in OT a while back. I'll see if I can find em.

Just sell the dämn thing, what if they deny the repair because they suspect or know what you did? Not worth it.

Yes it does. I once left an HP laptop, plugged in, and outdoors (and went inside and fell asleep). A really hard rain came along that woke me up, and I went outside to find a pile of smoldering plastic.

After the replacement, you have to be very very careful, as there are limits and timeframes to what they will further repair (ie: read the fine print).

Nope. In fact, it sat there for probably 30 minutes in a torrential downpour, and neither the the circuit breaker or GFCI outlet tripped. It just slowly melted.

Of course, the real suprise was when I woke up...

Me: "Ahh, honey, what a nice rainstorm..."

Wife: "Ya, this is really nice... Didn't you leave one of your laptops running out on the observation deck???"

    Me: "huh???.... Oh *#$!"

They also did a really nice replacement on a unit that got a really large big honkin glass of "southern style" iced tea knocked over (squarely) on to the keyboard. That unit died almost instantly, and the internal components where totally sugar coated.

Another time, had a unit wrapped in bubble wrap + a thick towel, inside a laptop case, that gently rolled off a chair onto some really soft carpeting. Thought nothing of it until I pulled the unit out, and glass from the display went everywhere.

On the other hand, I recently dropped a unit from 12 feet directly onto concrete, and it survived with only a small scratch! This same unit has been dumped off a TV tray a half dozen times, and dropped twice onto a bathroom floor, all with no ill effects,
