When the DM1 was first announced, I could hardly wait to get my hands on one. But, for whatever reason, this model was designed for non-North American (or non-USA markets). Instead we got the Mini 311 with its weak Atom processor. Looks like HP made a deal with Intel to keep the Atom alive while the Celeron manages to outperform it elsewhere.

Anyway, been debating a Dell 11z vs. an Acer. HP will lose my money even though I'd prefer to stick with them. Just not in an Atomic sort of way.

If HP would configure a netbook like this, I'd have already opened my wallet for it.

    Acer Aspire AS1410-2039 LX.SA702.052 Notebook PC - Intel Celeron ULV 743 1.3GHz, 2GB DDR2, 250GB HDD, 11.6" Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Black

Anyone else given up on HP in favor of Acer and what has your experience been?

I love my Acer Aspire One netbook! That's the one system I use everyday at lunch to catch up on the forums I'm on, and my email. It's a great little extremely portable computer, and the 5+ hour battery life is a fantastic plus.

In this day Ans age almost seem pointless to get a netbook. For like 100 dollars more you can usually get a much better ultraportable that is much more comfortable and capable.

Can you give us some good examples of a 3 pound $500 ultraportable with 5+ hours of battery time that is much more comfortable and capable? I looked wide and hard before buying my Acer, but couldn't find one that hit the mark. I got my Aspire One with an Atom 1.6GHz, 10.1" LED backlit screen, 6-cell battery, 160GB hard drive, 1GB memory, Bluetooth, Atheros 802.11 B/G wireless, 3 USB ports, memory card reader, USB DVD recorder, wireless mouse, AC adapter, and case for $399 this past Christmas. Windows XP Pro runs great on it, and so does Office 2003. Of course it's not a gaming or HD video platform, but for the price I didn't expect it to be. If you can point out a similar ultraportable notebook with good gaming and HD video performance and around $500, I'd really appreciate it. Really. Thanks.

Acer Aspire Timeline 3810TZ a bit larger but it is powerful.
If you want discrete graphics performance go for 3810TG.
Note but 3810 us obselete soon 3820 is emerging more powerful than its predecessor.
I like Acer because of the price vs spec ratio, although the tech support sucks it doesn't matter as I am capable of servicing it myself.

I'd suggest filling out a FAQ on the "what should I buy" bit of the forum. You'll get some great suggestions.

The Aspire 1410 with the Core 2 Solo was one of the systems I was looking at when I got my Aspire One. Wouldn't call it a gaming system, but with the better screen, CPU, and GPU it definitely sounds good. Might have to get my hands on one to try it out.

Looks like you have a diverse collection of computers. I agree you should buy a 1410 and check it out. I'm particularly interested in build quality and tech support. I've always tried to stick with Dell,HP, or IBM. Maybe Toshiba. Don't know anything first hand about Acer, Asus, Fujitsu, Sony, eMach, Gateway, Averatec, etc., etc.
