I apologize first for asking such a nooby question.
When manufacturers state the hard drive size to be a certain amount, why is the actual usable amount significantly less? My notebook hard drive is said to be 320gb, but the actual usable amount is 298gb, where did the 22gb go?

@lithus, in 900+ posts I have never seen this question asked. I search on the sidebar and windows/os and hardware.
