Adapter or for 2.5" SATA hard drive of dv9000t

Hi all
I have got a new OEM 2.5" SATA hard drive for my dv9000t. I was convinced that I could have installed it easily. It's not the case! I found that there is a piece of "interconnection" that allows to install the SATA hard drive connector to the connector presnt on the dv9000t motherboard.

Where I can get it???

take it off your old one? does it come off?

 

hp has them. its $39 and comes with the hd bracket to keep it in place. if your looking for just the adapter there are come on ebay for about $9

 

Does any one know the HP part number(s) for HD bracket and SATA drive connector ?

im confused what adapter are you guys talking about? I was only aware of needed the mounting braket, and then a sata hard drive to be able to have a 2nd hard drive? I have the dv8000t, did they change something witht he 9000's that makes it need that adapter you are talking about

 

In order to connect the SATA drive to the mother board you need the SATA pin adapter. Thankfully the adapter is included in the mounting bracket kit.
for $39 plus tax + shipping you get the bracket, 4 screws and the SATA interface adapter. (I just got one from HP)

The reason for the adapter is instead of plugging in, the HDD gets pushed down onto the pins, hence the need for the adapter.

 

DO NOT BUY THE ADAPTER MENTIONED IF YOU WANT TO INSTALL A SECOND SATA DRIVE IN AN HP DV9000 SERIES NOTEBOOK!!

people keep posting the same part number (434106-001) which is wrong for what people are asking for. if these people would actually take a look at the HP partsurfer page they would see that the description clearly states that it comes with a 22-pin PARALLEL ATA adapter, NOT SATA. it's a waste of money to get this kit if you're looking to install a second SATA drive. from my research at least five people from this forum alone have bought this kit and gotten parallel ATA adapters. this is one of the hardest parts to find that i've ever looked for and until someone posts a link to a real site to find it, people will probably keep wasting their money on the wrong part.

 

You are so wrong. here is the original supplied hard drive and connector in my dv9000t, next to it, the contents of HP part 434106-001.
As you can see, the connector IS the required SATA one.

 

i mentioned this thread to my girlfriend and as a matter of coincidence she told me she found and ordered the same part number as a surprise thinking she had found the part i was looking for. it arrived this afternoon via FedEX and, as i suspected, it has a parallel ATA adapter NOT the serial ATA adapter. i've already called HP about it and arranged to return the kit for a refund. perhaps i'll call them back with info about people getting the right adapter about 50% of the time, but i assure you, people are ordering this kit and getting parallel and sata adapters included seemingly at random.

 

Hmmm. thats interesting. In the past I have heard stories about people not getting the screws sent either, and HP charging them for a complete set of laptop screws.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones.

 

just so everyone knows this is a real phenomenon i'll post a pic of the adapter that a lot of us are getting with our adapter kits.



so, i guess, as a slight correction it would be better to say that you order this kit at your own risk. you may get a SATA adapter, you may get a PATA adapter. if you're like me, prepare to spend some time on the phone with HP.

Well, they did say HP Parts in Guatemala is notorious for misplacing, mislabeling, mishandling, and missing parts....

 

The exact same part was sent to me rudeboy. I called HP and they told me they don't sell the SATA connector and that they only sell that adapter. I said, why advertise the bracket is for the dv9000 and not sell the correct adapter for it? She said...."I don't know".

Anyway, had to send it back...


Not the best first call to HP-hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Here's a question... has anyone who has received the IDE (PATA) adapter been able to successfully use it in the DV9000 with an IDE drive?

I ordered the 434106 and did receive a SATA adapter.

 

I just go my Part 434106-001 in the mail today and it had the SATA adapter. I actually have a drive i want to try and install that needs the PATA adapter. Anyone want to trade my SATA for their PATA adapter?

I ordered that part number and got a SATA connector. It's in my laptop and working just fine.

 

Quick question gentleman. I orderd the 2nd hdd tray from HP, got the right adapter, etc... but when i boot up my vista ultimate asks me for drivers for the HDD. any ideas??? it is a hitachi just like the primary (only is the 5400 rpm and not the 7200 rpm). I have a dv9000t running vista ultimate.

I have hd bracket, so everything i need just adapter. I tryed to llok for on the e-bay, but it was unsuccesfully. So any body has any idea where to get just adapter? Or it part number? Thanx alot

I had to deal with the same thing yesterday. Both drives were Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160GB. I had to format & partition the main drive, then delete it. After I restarted the pc, Vista installed with no problem. To make the 2nd drive show up in the OS I had to format & partition it after I installed Vista. After all that mess I didn't even try to raid the drives, if its even possible.

Hey, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I ordered an SATAII hard drive from newegg for my HPDV9000T and am having a similar problem with the adapter (or lack thereof). I have looked on ebay but haven't been able to find any adapters. Does anyone know where I might find one? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm... I put a Seagate in my secondary. Didn't get that kind of a message. I did have to go in to the properties for the controller in device manager "Activate" or something like that the logical drive. Then I was able to format it and away we go.

Also, just for the record I used an SATA drive and the kit from HP part number 434106-001 and the kit date on the box was 4-9-07. The kit cost me the princely sum of around $48 total. Terribly overpriced for a think piece of aluminum, four screws and a plastic connector but then what manufacturer doesn't hose you for the aftermarket parts.

 

I tried ordering hp part 434106-001 hp parts page said they had it but my orders kept getting cancelled.....ask hp for more help...in Canada they gave me toll free 1-800-474-6836 number and tech people ordered part for me from their own warehouse....hope this helps anybody lookin for this part...they even said they would make sure it was a SATA connecter in box....people posting photos were a great help to me as my local hp dealer said NO notebook would have two hard drives.....thanks doug p ...ontario canada

sorry sorry sorry....four hours of calls to hp canada....shifted me to parts in costa rica....they have no adapters...what garbage..for a fairly new product that claim to fame..is two hard drives...sad in canada

Is there any way Toshiba or Dell could make this thread into a commercial? You could always buy the bracket, then depending on what you get, base your hard drive choices off that! sheesh.

 

If you do a google search, you can now find the dv9000 caddy for $35 "in stock" from third party vendors.

Just get the sata connector it off ebay. they are like 8 bucks shipped from china and if you want the hard drive cage too thats about 25 bucks shipped with the adaptor. heres a recent listing.

right now i see 16 listings for these parts. and many of them have 10 or more in stock per listing. most of them come from china. some from canada.

and dont worry about it not arriving. if it doesn't show up ebay has you covered.
