On dv2000z or v3000z: I really like the ATI radeon cards and how it interfaces to external monitors. Is it possible to open any little hatch on the bottom of these notebooks and swap out the nvidia and put in the ati card?

Nope. Graphics cards are not changeable on notebooks, except for Dells, MXM capable notebooks, or notebooks with proprietary manufacturer formats. Only 1 notebook so far from HP is rumored to have MXM.
