I am the new owner of a Compaq v2312us (great computer for the money, in my opinion). I have it connected to an external monitor for general viewing and editing photos. The external monitor is a 4 year old (from the old system) Gateway FPD1520 15" LCD square monitor (the Compaq is 14" Widescreen). Both are 1024X768 resolution. However the Gateway LCD (which is plugged into the Compaq) seems a bit pixelated (which was not so in its life as a monitor for a Gateway system) and also is compressed. Can I use the adjustments in Windows or on the ATI card that is on the Compaq to 1 - increase the visible resolution so it is as smooth as it once was (the Compaq screen looks great) and 2 - unsqeeze the Gateway LCD. As an added question, can any of these two things be done and not impact the Compaq screen? Basically I would like to independently adjust the screen width and resolution of the two monitors (although the compaq is telling me it is running the Gateway LCD at 1024x768 - it doesn't look loke it to me!!) Thanks for any advice and I look forward to participating in this forum!!

it sounds like your monitor needs to be adjusted. usually there is an auto adjust button on LCDs (the gateway monitor I mean) that will stretch them to fit. unless you run the 15" lcd at its maximum resolution tho, it will look slightly fuzzy. you should be able to independently adjust the two resolutions, although I have not tried.

You have the same model as me, make sure your bios had the F.0A firmware so your ram runs at the right speed.
