    Hi there,

I am now using my 8510p for nearly half a year and everything is fine.

However, I am encountering a problem that when I run Virtual Box, a massenge will alert me that my RamDrive (which is 512MB in size and I used it to store page files.) is out of capacity.

Therefore I am planning to buy a 2GB Ram to replace one of my 1GB Ram.

Do my configuration (1GB*2 Ram, used 512MB to be Ramdrive to store my page files.) has problem? Or it is okay to do so?

and what if I wanna buy ONE 2GB memory to replace one of my 1GB ram?
Can Dual-Channel run at 1GB + 2GB (Total of 3GB) environment? if yes, will my 8510p's performance drops a lot??

Thank you very much for reading and understanding my silly questions..

As fas as i know the technical term for what you are asking is if the 8510p has a chipset that supports Flex Mode. Meaning that the first two GB of your memory run in dual channel mode and the remaining 1 GB runs in single channel mode.

But I don't know, whether the 8510p supports this. Maybe you could send an email to HP and ask them?

    oops.. Thanks for your advice...

However, I don't think that I could get the answer from hp as they always said that you can add/replace ram by yourself, but you won't get any guarantee of get them run in no matter single nor dual channel...

sorry, but I have another silly question...
Is the internal SD card reader of 8510p supports SDHC? and Is SDHC with internal card reader fast and stable enough to get ReadyBoost in Vista works to some how virtually ""increase my Ram capacity""??

    Thanks!

what os are you running right now ? vista ? 32 or 64 bit ?

if you are on a 32 bit os you will never experience more than ~3 GB. No matter how much ram you insert.
if you are on 64 bit, just buy 2x2 gb ram. ram is pretty cheap, i bought the 4gb for 80 €. btw, you will never get a guarantee that ram is running on your notebook.
you will not void your warranty by exchanging the ram yourself, and if the ram you bought does not work, you can still return it.

and you should forget about that sd card idea...

Thanks... actually.. I am from Hong Kong and 2 * 2GB is cheap really.. cost only ~HKD$650, that is about 55 Euro...

I planned to buy it, which brands are better or any 8510p users change there Ram, can you please suggest some for me?

Is SD card too slow for ready boost? how about SDHC class 6?

    Thanks!!

That's all I can think of, but they're all really good.

No, it won't run dual channel, but dual channel only has about a 5% boost on performance, and 1 more whole GB of ram is worth alot more than 5%. You will have xero performance drops. I have 3 GB if you're wondering, and the same computer
