You can replace the existing one but you probably can't add an additional one.

But the dv9000 series is capable of having 2 hard drives. So, yes the OP can add another HDD.

The HDD bays should be located underneath the notebook and should be easily accessible by removing 2 or 4 screws. Any 2.5" SATA notebook HDD should be compatbile but you will need a adaptor & frame to connect the HDD to connect/fit the hard disk into the bay. Look around ebay or you can buy directly from HP pArts store.

The HDD adapter to hook up the HDD to the laptop and the cradle for the HDD will run around $40 if you buy it from HP. So like miner said, look around ebay first see if theres any deals there before you go straight to HP to buy them.

Just a SATA pin adapter that should be on the old HDD that you pull off and put on the new HDD. The problem comes with installing a second HDD in which then you have to buy another adapter from HP.

When you are adding a 2nd HDD you not only need to SATA adapter, but you need the HDD cradle as well. This comes as a package though when you buy it, and if memory serves me right the package for the adapter and cradle is around $40. If you are simply replacing the stock HDD then you can swap the parts to the new HDD.
